I would like to buy a 9mm 1911 pistol. My 2 final choices are :
- Kimber stainless Target II
- Springfield Armory 1911 A1 loaded mfg # PI9134L

They have adjustable sights.

Main usage is target shooting (I live in Canada and we're not allowed to do anything else with a handgun), should shoot about 2000 rounds/year.

Will buy new gun but can't try any of them before buying. I will have to get it delivered by mail.

Do you have any good or bad experience with either one of them?

How do you compare them (accuracy, ease of maintenance, construction, etc...)

thanks
Bob

I only own an STI 2011 in .40, but I have been considering a 1911 .45. Of those you mentioned, I love the look of the traditional 1911-A1 in 9mm from springfield, but I have not heard a lot of good things about QC on springfields, except that the 1911 9mm mags are supposed to be good.
Kimber are supposed to be a well made 1911, and I liked Robaks which I fired a few years ago.......very nice.
I have considered the STI trojan as well. STI are very nice. They Norcs prepped from Armco can not be discounted, as they appear to be a good deal for the money and are worth a consideration.

Not sure what the ultimate goal here for your 9mm - target shooting for pleasure or competition: IPSC/CDPA etc - there would be better choices than the Kimber or Springfield....
Everybody will provide an opinion. There have been quality issues with the Kimber extractors.
Ultimately, it is the model that feels the most comfortable in your hand, easiest to sight as you bring it up, and pleasing to the eye - that way you will not be disappointed.

Get something with a ramped bushingless barrel, or at least ramped with standard bushing as a minimum. Much more reliable when feeding it other then FMJ's. STI Ranger II is about the same price as a Trojan, and adjustable sights are over rated IMHO unless you are an olympic shooter.....

. . . adjustable sights are over rated IMHO unless you are an olympic shooter.

Thanks Hitzy for that comment. I have been debating if they are worth it and I kind of doubt it for the way I will be shooting for quite a while--read handgun newbie.

I actually like the adjustables sights, as I find ammo hits slightly different according to load types.

Buy anything but a Sprinffield, unless it's a high end Rob Letham TRP. The low end ones are nothing but trouble.

A friend just picked up a Springfield TRP and it has lots of problems. Machining/tool marks as well as a number of internal/mechanical issues. I don't know what's going on with Springfield lately, but I wouldn't touch one.

What are you thinking? 9mm? get a 40 or 45. Something with put down power. kimber is good & springfield is heavy. Pick one up , if it fits you and if you can hit what you want with it, that's the one. Practice will help, but how it fits your hand and lines up with your eye cannot be ignored.

NP29, here's my custom, also for sale :p .

Nice, but how much?

On the topic... since I'm kinda a USGI/mil-spec kinda guy I'd go for the Springfield model that most looks like a GI pistol. And fixed sites of course.

I'd like to hear reports of your personal experiences with the Springfield pistol models you refer to... Got any? :D

I think I am going to get the Springfield in a 9mm, I have four Springfields (2 1911's and 2 XD's) never had one problem with the way they function (had a finish issue on one, that 95% of people would not even care about I am just picky) so my experience has been good.

I'd prefer the Kimber over the Springfield anyday.

Better yet, a Norinco 9mm and slicked up by Gunnar @ Armco is the way for me. Exremely affordable, accurate and beautifull trigger. It feeds everything I give it and some. :D
