Help me chose...Three gun match black rifle..

I know I will be involved in a three gun match sooner or later. I have a good shotty for it and a handgun but need the black rifle as I only have a .22 cooey and a 30-06 Remington 700 with a hinged floor plate.

What would be a good black rifle to get for 600-800 dollars? I was looking at the non-restricted CZ 858?

I`d say save up a little bit more and get an AR, or get your hands on a M305. I`ve got both and both are good, although the 305 is more heavy. But those are just my 2 cents.
 
The CZ/VZ will be better than a stock M305 for three gun due to it's lightness and compactness. You can shoot it a lot more for practice due to the price of ammo as well. However, if the match allows more than 5 rd capacity, the M305 can use AIA M10 mags for a definite advantage. Also, shortening a M305 will help out too.

I used a shorty M305 with LER scope at our 3 gun this summer to beat guys with tricked out AR's (with 10 rd mags) and CZ/VZ's.
 
Comes down to ammo and aftermarket. Lots of surplus non-reloadable ammo available for the CZ.

AR-15: The King of customization, lots and lots of options (Both good and bad), 10 rounders!
Mini-14: another .223 Non Restricted and fairly customizable. Pricey mags.
M305: .308, tons of stuff for the M-14 fits the Norc clone. Non R.
CZ858: 7.62x39 Cheap surplus ammo. Next to nada with extras.

If you don't reload then by far go for the CZ.
 
An AR-15 is your only choice, if you care about being competitive. The availability of ten-round magazines gives it a head-and-shoulders advantage over anything else.

There's all the Fab Defense stuff for the VZ, though I don't know how good it is. Or you can go the home-made route. It's not hard to drill and tap a rail onto the handguard for a scout mount and I've got a buddy doing another mod for mine right now.

That's not what happened at the last match I ran. The shooter is still more important than the equipment.

It also depends on if you're there to win, or to have fun and run your favourite rifle.
 
I second the SKS idea. Get a cheap used SKS (less than $250?) now and save up for an AR to use later. I'd say it's better to get INVOLVED sooner and get the great gear later. No point in not participating for a couple years while waiting to accumulate the money 'someday'.

Or a Lee-Enfield Jungle carbine... yeah, you get 10rnd mags for that too!
 
I have an sks, an ar, an m-305 and a vz. According to my calculations.

Winning a 3 gun match with a relic from the korean war ......Priceless

Buy something now and get shooting i started with a sks then my Garrand and then a AR-15. Had fun with them all expecially the Garrand as any point blank targets got destroyed LOL.Even used a jungle carbine once also not all matches use 10 rnd mags like the match at Sharon last week, and if you look in the photo section there are pics of the match ,long guns shown m-305 ar-15 a lever gun semi auto shotty and pumps, pistol glocks cz`s.
So buy somthin and get out and have fun.
