I have narowed it down to to guns that fit my budget. Help me decide.

Weatherby Vanguard with Bushnell Elite 3200 $699

Savage 111fcxp3 $419 plus Bushnell Elite 3200 $199 or 4200 for $269

Does the barrel length matter. They seem fairly even in accuracy. Tikkas were getting to be over my price range.

Toss a coin I'd say...both good guns and good value but regardless of whih one you choose, I think the 4200 is worth the extra coin.

I like detachable magazines so I'd tend to favour the Savage, but both those combinations seem to be competitively priced and both have good reputations for accuracy, so I think you should try to get to at least handle an example of each and decide on the basis of which feels like it fits you better.

About the only thing the weatherby has as an advantage is the stock, i checked both and liked the way the stock on the weatherby felt better.

Try to find examples of each that are wearing scopes , perhaps on the used gun rack ,and see which feels better. Some guns appear to balance better and that would be the determining factor I would use. Don't listen to what others may tell you about the fit and balance as this is an individual thing due to physical dimensions of the shooter and how you handle the gun. An example of what to look for is the way it shoulders and how easy it is to get target alignment through the scope.

Best would be if you could borrow rifles to actually shoot and get a feel for perceived recoil as well.

I tried both at my local store, liked the feel of the Weatherby better (felt solid, like it was made right). That being said, it was a decisiosn of what they both had on hand at the time; you might go in and like the way that certain Savage handles. What I'm saying is keep an open mind, try a few of each and base your decision on which one you like better. All of our opinions are for what we like. Both guns seem to be pretty close in accuracy and reliability.

Good luck, post some pics when you get it!
