I dont have either item yet...lol
I just orderd the ultimak and it will be going on a USGI fiberglass stock with my new Shorty and a Vortex Sparc for optics,Springfield Armory brake and I have a Turner Saddelry AWS sling is on its way to me too..

Those pics of the Boyds stocks I stole off the net .

OK, so I've got everything I wanted initially on route heres what I got on the go...

Ordered/Shipped
-Norc M305 18.5
-Ultimak M8 Rail
-Springfield Armory M1A Synthetic Stock
-Extended Recoil Pad
-Vickers Combat Sling
-Black 7.62 Magpuls

Considering
-Smith Ent. M14 Replacement Navy Brake
-ArmaCoat Refinish & Re-Park Black

The only other things I'm thinking about doing is adding the Navy brake and perhaps sending the barrel & action out to get it refinished and re-parked black. We'll see though, I might beat it up a bit before I re-finish it.

With the refinishing I'd be into this rig for about 1k, seems pretty decent considering the Standard M1A is still 2k and the Socom is 2.3k. With all this done to the Norc she'd be just as purdy and function just as good and I'd still be 1k ahead...

It's interesting to say the least...

I love my smith brake on my normal length m14. Sure does make the rifle seem louder though.

... what? what happened? where am I...

Holy f**k! ...s**t just got crazy over at Brownells. Seriously this addiction is getting out of control... and it's only week one. So I blacked out online and when I came too and checked my email, the following order confirmations were there...

-SA Muzzle Brake/Stabilizer
-SEI Extended Mag Release
-SA National Match Gas Cylinder
-SA Gas Cylinder Plug
-SA Castle Nut
-SA Castle Nut Set Screw
-SA Pro Spring Kit
-SA National Match OP Rod Spring Guide
-SEI Extended Bolt Stop
-SEI Match Front Sight

... my god, ...and I still need a rear sight.

So all of those items confirmed to ship?

Just an FYI, the NM gas cylinder is not USGI spec I don't believe. Not sure if this will effect anything, but better to be safe than sorry.

Springfield gas cylinders are manufactured by wayne machine in taiwan if I remember right. They are a decent replacement part. I've installed many for folks and they are dimensionally correct internally and externally and threaded with usgi spec gas plug threads.
Other brands for "usgi spec" gas cylinders are smith enterprise and 7.62 firearms.

Looks like a fantastic pile of goodies you've got inbound :D

This szchit is fun ain't it?

If I had my choice I'd get a smith enterprise cylinder, but not sure if brownells exports them.
On a side note, would be cool to see a canadian company cnc up some quality cylinders and pistons.

Got a recommended alternitive to a better replacement cylinder?

I don't think the SEI cylinder will go from Brownells as it's $135 even with my discount it's still over $100. I'm pretty sure this SA NM cylinder will ship as it's under $100 bucks (with my discount). I will know shorty what will ship on that list, they will be sending me confirmation here shorty.

M14Doc,

Are there any special tools I need to remove and install the cylinder? Can a guy manage with basic tools and some patience?

So all of those items confirmed to ship?

I just got confirmation, all those items I listed are confirmed and shipping out today. So it would appear Gas Cylinders and the related parts are G2G aswell as Sights. Those were the only items I was worried about.

Geez theres not guna be much "Norinco" left in this unit by the time I'm done... lol

I think you'll have a problem with the SA castle nut though; I would expect that to be USGI threaded as opposed to the threads on a Norinco barrel. It'll come in handy when you get a USGI barrel though, and at the rate you're going, I'd wager that's not far off!

Gonna be a wicked truck gun, that's for sure.

EDIT: I had a SPARC on my Ultimak, and it was alright. My biggest issue was the flat spot in the bottom of the SPARC obscured a lot of the view through the sights, so it wasn't the best co-witness scenario. I tried to take a picture of it:

Didn't make a lick of difference when shooting both as open, and it was a ton of fun, but I've since gone Leupold and never looked back... although a scope, steel rings, an Ultimak, lower rail, muzzle brake, and a bipod makes for a pretty hefty gun.

So you think the threads on the Norinco are proprietary? I guess I could use the Norc nut, but it'd be nice to keep everything the same brand.

Can anyone confirm or deny this?
