help me find a 45

HK45C is a very nice .45 if you want a plastic gun. I like the flat sided grips more than the full-size's "Spiderman" grips. Factory trigger is nothing to write home about, but the gun sure is accurate.

Magazines aren't an inexpensive proposition, but some of the pain is eased by buying off IRG.

Other recommendations include CZ-97, and Glock 41.

I agree that the 1911 is the way to go - but I do not agree with the suggestions to go with Norinco. They are a sad introduction to what is the finest pistol platform available. I see Rickster66 offered you a range meet-up. Best possible opportunity.

Try what you can. You don't need a $4000 gun - but you don't want a $400 gun either.

Enjoy the journey.

Rob!

Lol! Of course you don't want a $400.00 gun. My reliable Norkie sport was $325 and Commander was $300 from the EE. Accuracy is about 8 inch groups at 25 meters. That's shooting offhand by a not too good shooter, me.

Buy a Ruger SR1911.

All stainless, Novak sights, bump grip safety, extended manual safety, skeletonized burr hammer, heavy combat springs.
Very well made, cheaper than a Kimber, and reliable as hell.

Kimbers are nice.......45's even better.

Colt Government .45 01991 Blued .... $1,150.00 NIB
Glock 21 3rd gen ............$995.00 NIB
Kimber Custom 11 .........$1,400.00 NIB
Sig P220R .....................$1,350.00 NIB

In my experience.....buy whatever you have been drooling over lol, worry about the payback later lol. Me personally I bought another Glock 21SF .45 and a Colt Government .45 01991

Always had a sweet tooth for a Sig P220R Elite .45 Auto ....absolute master piece for a full sized .45 Auto

Good Luck & Happy Shooting :)

I would get a Colt, Dan Wesson, or Springfield.

I would pass on the STI 1911s in .45 primarily because of the ramped barrel. For .45 1911s, a properly built gun with a conventional barrel will actually feed better. Ramped barrels are best suited to other calibres. The secondary reason I don't care for the STI 1911s are their garish slide markings.

For a non-1911 .45, my first choice would be an M&P 45, but I don't see a compelling reason to shoot .45 other than to feed 1911s.

I have owned about 5 1911's now and have settled on 2. The Ruger and a Norinco Commander. Amazingly, the Norc is only about 1" less accurate at 25m. They are both REALLY reliable. I have had 3 stoppages with the Norinco, and 2 with the Ruger. (over a recorded log count of 1400 rounds for the Norinco and 1950 rounds for the Ruger)
The trigger is a bit better on the Ruger but it cost twice what the Norinco cost me. I like the sights on the Norinco a bit better and it seems to be more accurate at 10m or less. Your mileage may vary a lot but don't get too hung up on "the prestige" of the gun. There are lots of "ham n eggers" out there that will do what you ask of it with no problems.
If you WANT a Kimber, then get one. I know a guy that LOVES his. I have shot it, and it was certainly a well put together gun. Kind of light compared to my guns, but that is O.K. too.

There is no comparison between the P220 and a 1911. They are two different pistols that serve two different purposes and are distinguished by the trigger and related safeties.

The P220 is better suited as a duty gun because of the decocker, the da/sa trigger. You want this on your hip if you are a cop that rarely needs to rapidly draw and fire.

The 1911 has a vastly superior trigger but is sa only. Makes it a little less foot/thigh friendly on a draw.

I also find the P220 barrel axis is higher thus more flippy than a 1911. The 1911 is a better target/range gun.

My 2 cents. Love both and will never sell either, but they are differwnt beats.

There are several SAO P220 models-certainly personal preference, but I like my P220 Super Match as well as any of my 1911s.

Ramped barrel has more to do with support, than feeding for higher pressure loads.

I'm not a "1911 kinda guy" but I enjoy shooting my buddies Les Baer Monolith Commanche.
Crisp trigger, smooth slide and "Guaranteed to shoot 3" groups at 50 yards". It looks good with the full dust cover too.

STI Trojan is well worth the money, the last 3 years Freedom Ventures has had great black friday sales on them. Lowest prices I've seen (also when I bought mine).

I also have an M&P 45 FDE, I like it, but found it hard to grip when sweating, but a little grip tape solved that. The reset was definitely hard to feel originally, since then I have done the 'burwell' trigger job (just google it) and it has much much much improved. As a side note, apparently the filing of the sear can/does affect the hardening, and if you area very high volume shooter, can need replacement in the future.

Honestly, while I do enjoy shooting the M&P, it barely see's any time, as I am always spending time practicing with my 1911.

As a side note, I also own an older stainless STI ranger II (from earlier 2000's, non ramped barrel, but still bull), and I do love shooting it as well, but I prefer the fibre optic of my Trojan.

I agree. My STI Trojan in .45 came from the Freedom Ventures Black Friday sale 2 years ago. I love the gun and even at regular retail they represent good value........ at the sale price I think it's unbeatable value.

after reading the many replies, i will get a 1911. just hesitating between the sig and the kimber for now i guess

As an fyi, the SIG's don't use some of the standard 1911 holsters because of their slide shape. There is a "traditional" SIG 1911 with the normal shape.

Check out the Walther PPQ 45 then
