Agree ...... I'd rather a spare scope in QD rings if I wanted a back-up.do we really need iron sights on a modern bolt action

Perfection!XS rail on Ruger Scout rifle gives aperture sight at rear plus LPVO. You could probably hang some sort of offset flashlight off the front of the rail for added tacticool.

do we really need iron sights on a modern bolt action
the 557 is a beautiful gun. when you say 10 round magazine are you referring to the 557 Ranger model? I thought the standard Lux had a floorplate magazine?Look for the next best alternative, a short action CZ 557 Lux. Buy a 10-round mag for it and as a bonus, you get a nice Turkish walnut stock. They are around if you search hard enough. I dropped mine into an OEM "Night sky" synthetic stock.
Another option is a Ruger M77 Gunsigjht Scout or a conventional M77 Compact with irons.
Lots of advantages to a box mag, personally I dislike blind mags. Floor plate is acceptable if it holds 5 rounds, otherwise it can collect dust in a box.You might want to consider blind magazines or floor plates and scrap the detachable magazine requirement.
There's no real advantage to a detachable mag.
A sight convenience at best.
Yes, I still look for irons whenever possible.do we really need iron sights on a modern bolt action

I have irons on every rifle I own except for my Dlask Tuf22.do we really need iron sights on a modern bolt action
The only rifles I’d not care about having irons on would be some flavour of magnum cartridge, though it’s not hard to find an older Rem 700 in 7rem mag with irons or some other classic hunting rifle. I love a nice blued rifle with a walnut stock and irons.I have irons on every rifle I own except for my Dlask Tuf22.
Those without QD rings I tape an Allen key or other small tool to remove the rings in a pinch.
I've never had to but just as I've never had to use the fire extinguishers in my trucks, UTV and boat, I still keep one there.
The 557 Lux came in a standard floorplate model (long action) and I have one of those too (8x57), but also in a short action with a 5-round detachable magazine (308 and 243 only). The 243 SA Lux is very rare as it was only made for 3 years (2018-2020). Apparently, the short action Lux also came with the standard floorplate too, but I haven't seen one.the 557 is a beautiful gun. when you say 10 round magazine are you referring to the 557 Ranger model? The Eclipse was their entry model and very decent. My short action Lux with 20" barrel is more of a middle weight. I have a PGW pic rail and an NECG peep site, and a spare OEM synthetic stock as the Turkish walnut is way too nice to bang up. I really like mine as it fits me well and its just as accurate as any of my T3's. I have lighter rifles too, but all fill a purpose. As an aside, I have really grown fond of 243.I had a 557 eclipse in .308. Irons were great, rifle was far too heavy for my application and the aftermarket parts were very difficult to come by, IF anyone made them.
I’ve got a Parker hale 3006 now that I much prefer over that cz. I actually sold all of my 557/527/455. Only one I regret selling was the 455.The Eclipse was their entry model and very decent.
