Help me pick a 1911 .45 Auto.

I bought a Sig Nitron a few months ago. It is my first 1911. From the outset it was the most accurate and pleasant to shoot firearm in my inventory. Now that I've tweaked a few reloads, the accuracy is nothing short of awe-inspiring. The slide-to-frame fit is glass smooth and the trigger, while I'm sure an after market unit would smooth it up, is above average out of the box. Very sweet piece, highly recommended.

...STI...... Can't believe I went round the houses until I got mine.....it's one of my never sell pistols....you will love it..

I have a Colt Competition in 9mm, i like the higher grip. Not too keen with the blue firbre optic or novak adjustible sites.

overall, it ate everyting I fed it with mixed rounds, no ftf or fte during the initial range visit. I think I put about 700 rounds through it. If the 45acp ks anything like the 9mm, you won't have any lroblems.

I actually ordered the 45acp already also.

actually for a sub $1500 1911, I like the Sig TacOps if you can find one.

STI Trojan. Wait till near black Friday, the last 2 years Freedom Ventures has a great sale on them during that period. It's when I bought mine :D

There are lots of choices, as you've discovered, and is like asking what muscle car to buy. It all depends. Plinking on the range, IPSC or "combat" 1911. I started out with a SAM 1911 Tactical Commander. It is a great pistol and really well made. It can compete with guns twice its price in assembly quality, performance and looks. I absolutely love it. The fit and finish is beautiful and is well machined. It is an impressive pistol especially considering its price of around $500. I started competing in IPSC and wanted a "match" type gun and found a used Springfield Armoury Trophy Match for a really good deal. It is a stainless 1911 with aggressive checkering, match sights, match barrel and a fabulous trigger. This is the pistol I'll keep for a very long time. It feels right and shoots great.
When I was shopping I looked at Kimbers, Colts, Springfields and Sigs. All between $1000 to 1500. I don't think you can really go wrong with any of these brands in this price range. Before I found the Trophy Match, I had put a deposit down on a Kimber TLE/RL II . I think that Kimbers represent a good balance between production line guns and semi-custom - some have concerns about some of the part materials but know they'll stand behind their products. I recently bought a Dan Wesson 1911 CCO but haven't received it yet but looks great on paper. Dan Wessons aren't common up here but have a good following in the states. All of these 1911 were purchased between $1100 to $1400. If you want to spend more there are Les Baers, Ed Browns and Nighthawk customs that are custom guns that demand a high price.

Think am ready for a .45 Auto. I don't want any more plastic strike fires so am thinking 1911 Pistols am going to check out are: This will be my first .45 and I might do a little IPSC shooting on a low scale. Not interested in China Pistols.

Remington 1911 R1 Enhanced.
Sig Sauer 1911 STX
Your input is appreciated. Thanks!

None of the above.

Everyone would love to own a Colt or a Dan Wesson, etc, but money doesn't grow on trees. I had a Remmy R1 and was very surprised at the quality, fit and finish and accuracy/reliability of that pistol. There are some good 1911's out there that don't break the bank.

I will address the Remington 1911 R1 Enhanced, since that is the gun I got about 4 months ago. Fit and finish are very good to darn near excellent. No machining marks on exterior and only what you'd expect to see on the interior. No sharp edges or burrs, no gaps where there should not be. The finish is an even low luster "blue" that I find pleasing.

The slide serrations are large and easy to grasp, although I personally find the front serrations superfluous. The sights are very nice and for me visible and I find the red insert on the front blade really stands out, I will say that the fiber rod on my front sight has slid out a little bit during shooting, but never fell out, a dab of super glue should keep it place. The front sight is undercut so there might be a snagging problem is the gun is not holster carried. The gun was for my eyes spot on windage and only needed a tweak elevation wise.

The G10 grips are a pleasing, again to me, grey/black color and offer good purchase with out being too aggressive and the serrations on the front of the grip frame are a nice touch, as is the checkered main spring housing. The gun is controllable, a point that is probably aided by it coming equipped with a beavertail grip safety that also has the "speed bump", the burr or rowel hammer is also nice.

Remington says the gun comes with a 3.5 to 5 lbs trigger. I don't have a set of scales but it feels less than the 5 lbs trigger I had put on my Colt series 70 years ago. I like it. When it comes to accuracy I'm no Alvin York, I wish I was but I'm not. I was shooting Remington's bulk loaded 230 grain FMJ as well as their 230 grain HTP. At about 50 foot from bench rest I was shooting 5 to 6 inch groups when I had another club member give it a shot off hand he shot 3 to 4 inch groups. I said I'm no Alvin York.

Oh yeah, the gun was bought for under $900USD.

I have a Metro Arms 1911 Bullseye in 6'' and its pretty sweet and works great. https://macpistols.eagleimportsinc.com/macpistols/mac-bullseye-45acp-954

It has a checkerd front and back strap and a funnel mag well, adjustable sites and a heavy bull barrel.

Id love to buy a 10mm Dan Wesson but my budget isn't that high. http://cz-usa.com/product-category/danwesson/l

I'd take one of these if I could...

I own a Remington R1 Enhanced and would buy another without question. The STI Trojans are very nice as well, but the prices went up by $300 when I was looking to buy.

Yeah! The Trojan with the recommended mag well and a couple extra mags and your into the 2000+ range. Buying sight unseen that's a little to much IMO.
