Hi all,

Looking for a box mag pump shotgun. Something like the Sap 6 or the Grizzly but I'd like mags to have more than five rounds. I know I'm missing some. Any thought?

Thanks.

Adaptive Tactical.

I have one, and love it. It runs flawlessly.

Made in USA. Very high quality parts.
It takes Mossberg barrels and stocks, so selection is endless.

Ten-round stick magazines are available at reasonable prices through I Run Guns.

The SAP-6 got a bad rap in the beginning. Ive owned 3 of them, all the newer generation and they all worked great. The only issue youll have is if you short stroke it. Which is user error, not gun error. This would go for any pump gun of course, but its more important with the SAP-6. Just make sure your running it properly and they are amazing. Great deal right now as well and you can get different barrel lengths to suit different situations. The factory adjustable stock and pistol grip is surprisingly comfortable as well. I very much miss my SAP-6 and will buy another one.

Valtro. There is none finer.

I'm with you. I love my Valtro, though I did some work to put and adjustable stock on. Found the normal length of pull excessive.

The action is butter-smooth and locks up tight. Very accurate with slugs. Only 7 rounds, but they're fast AK rockn'lock style. Though the mags are expensive and a little hard to come by, I've never had feed issues.

Valtro by far is the most reliable pump box scottie to date.
Made in Italy.
From personal experience I would stay away from the SAP6.

You can get the 11 round SAP6 mags to work in the Valtro though ;)
(Modification to the mag needed)

Need to grind down/remove the old catches on the mag and weld new ones on.
It works reliable enough for me to use it in three gun. I will see if I can dig up some pictures.

As for the stock you need to get an adapter like the Mesa Tactical Mossberg AR stock adapter and machine it down to fit on the Valtro. Then you can use any AR stock on it.

Sweet, the mag prices have been the only reason I have not purchased one.
Look forward to some pics, sounds easy enough.

Cheers and thanks

"Easy enough" if you have access to some milling equipment. A professional machinist made the latches for me. He spent a lot more time on it then he would get a return on for selling it.

I found some of our prelim Drawings though. This first one isnt as fabricated. We didnt need that narrow strip at the bottom.

Back side catch. (The one the release locks on to)

This is the front side catch.

My stock mod was the same as JoKa's. I modeled it after Casey's work at TacOrd.

I've not been able to invest the time trying his mag mod... My F-I-L has some milling machines, but it's a pot full o'work. Maybe in the New Year...

That said, I ponied up for four 7 round Valtro mags so I'm GTG for tac shotgun matches.

Im really torn between buying a Valtro for 3 gun, or a Versamax and learning to quad load..... The only reason im considering the Versamax is then I will have my much needed semi Auto bird gun aswell. A two birds with one stone kindof deal:rolleyes:

Cant remember if you have a membership at CDTSA or not. If not, get it (Membership opening soon, member renewals opened up).
If you do have it or you get it, just let me know and you can test my PM5 out and pit it against my Benelli M4 to help your decision.

Phat eagle gets props on the stock mod, I copied him.

Yes I already renewed my membership, I appreciate your offer, i'll have to try out your PM5 some time! it certainly was effective at this summers 3 gun.... Westrifle had a sale on them at one point for like $500+ dollars; at that price, maybe I could afford one, and buy a bird gun as well.

Well the PM5 is likely not on my short list, $800 and then $95 per mag puts it beyond what I want to spend for something that I'm just going to blast targets in the bush.
