Even a 30/06 with a 180 or 200gr bullet would be a bit better than a 270.A new moose gun? Get a 35 Whelen, not a 270
A new moose gun? Get a 35 Whelen, not a 270. Yes, I own a few 270's, and to quote Elmer, they make a damn fine coyote gun. Now I'll wait for the rebuttals, lol. - dan
Recoil?? ...... Most men could handle a 35 Whelen. If you can't kill a moose with a 270 win and a 130 gr TSX or 140 Accubond, you certainly won't kill it with a gun that has half again more recoil and a trajectory like a rainbow!

Trajectory?? ..... At what distance are most moose shot? Near or far? What is near or far?

You may assume that my post was a joke and that in reality I would heartily recommend a 270 for moose. The Grover link would be a clue to the joke part I refer to.My 4 year old daughter took her 3rd moose with a .35 Whelen! Why don't you suggest a real man's gun that has a chance of safely stopping a charging moose? I recommend .50BMG for newbies and you can work your way up from there. I personally love recoil and currently use a 40mm Bofors cannon for whitetails and 120mm smoothbore for the bigger bears that I hunt in the GTA lol...
Seriously though, the 270 has killed a lot of moose on this continent and it recoils enough to affect the accuracy of a lot of shooters (guys or girls). It has plenty of power for most moose hunting. Nothing that I have shot with one has gotten back up yet...I would be curious to see what a .35 Whelen does to a ground hog though...
