Well, I have owned a Tikka 3 lite and now I own a .270 Browning X-Bolt Stainless Stalker.
1- The Tikka was a good shooter -- the barrell finish was cheep.
2- The Browning is a fantastic shooter (3 shots 1 hole @ 100 with Fed Prem factory 130's) & is a much more solid gun that the Tikka.
Only my opinion but I have owned both!
Cheers/luck.

I have had both and would buy the tikka and install a limbsaver recoil pad.

I really liked the Browning x-bolt but the catch for the rear of the mag didn't install confidence in me, looked like it would eventually fail, probably just a personal hang up. Might want to check it out though, take the mag out and look at the wispy little piece in the gun that secures the rear of the mag.

I own a Tikka and so does my Dad-- they are fantastic rifles-- we both love them.
I also own a Stainless Stalker, Xbolt and hunted with it this year. A couple of my friends shot deer with it too and everyone was very impressed with this rifle. It shoots just as accurately as the TIkka and has a nicer overall feel without costing a whole lot more $150.
It's a real toss up for me between the two, but I would go for the X bolt myself. One thing you won't notice just handling the gun is that it comes from the factory glass bedded! I was really surprised when I pulled it apart to clean the first time.
There is a lot of thought put into the Browning and I highly recommend. Still can't find any complaints about it.

If you can't kill a moose with a 270 win and a 130 gr TSX or 140 Accubond, you certainly won't kill it with a gun that has half again more recoil and a trajectory like a rainbow!
Recoil?? ...... Most men could handle a 35 Whelen.

Trajectory?? ..... At what distance are most moose shot? Near or far? What is near or far?

My 4 year old daughter took her 3rd moose with a .35 Whelen! Why don't you suggest a real man's gun that has a chance of safely stopping a charging moose? I recommend .50BMG for newbies and you can work your way up from there. I personally love recoil and currently use a 40mm Bofors cannon for whitetails and 120mm smoothbore for the bigger bears that I hunt in the GTA lol...

Seriously though, the 270 has killed a lot of moose on this continent and it recoils enough to affect the accuracy of a lot of shooters (guys or girls). It has plenty of power for most moose hunting. Nothing that I have shot with one has gotten back up yet...;) I would be curious to see what a .35 Whelen does to a ground hog though...

You may assume that my post was a joke and that in reality I would heartily recommend a 270 for moose. The Grover link would be a clue to the joke part I refer to. :)

I do not like the "new" Tikkas at all, regardless of accuracy, and the X-bolt is unproven, for the most part, so there is no choice up there AFAICS. I like the look and feel of the X-bolt, but my experience with the A-bolt has left me cold on Browning. At least they ditched that abortion of a detachable magazine. Regards, Eagleye.

now short mag for me, cause you'll always be able to find 270 win in butt f*ck middle of nowhere ontario

and since i live in southern ontario it will be nice to have a gun i can hunt with down here too

Good choice on caliber, and I heartily recommend the Tikka by a smidgeon over the X-bolt. I have yet to see a Tikka shoot poorly. That said, I like the feel of the X-Bolt better, but would buy a new Model 70 over either of them.

Go back to Bass Pro, and ask to see and handle the Marlin XL7. I was there last week with my brother, and they still had them in 270 Win..............for $329! That will save you enough money to put on a really good scope, and end up with a very good moose hunting outfit.

Here's the best group my Marlin 270 has shot to date.

Sorry, didn't follow the link and my sarcasm detector has crashed (friggin Microsoft!). I would like to see what a 120mm cannon would do to a moose though... lol.
