Go back to Bass Pro, and ask to see and handle the Marlin XL7. I was there last week with my brother, and they still had them in 270 Win..............for $329! That will save you enough money to put on a really good scope, and end up with a very good moose hunting outfit.

Here's the best group my Marlin 270 has shot to date.

Just like my Marlin XL7 in .270 with cheap federal blue box ammo. Also what a great soft pillowy recoil pad!! I paid $350.00
 
I regret selling my Tikka T3 lite in .338 win mag. Seriously. I could shoot serious shyte with that gun. Had to sell it to purchase another. If I could shoot that well, When I picked up my Friends in .270, it was the most enjoyable gun I had shot to date. The action is so butter smooth, that cycling was effortless. Its a deadly hunting rifle in my hands and its only a matter of time before funds get better for me and I pick up another. (in .270 win.)
BUT.........you guys have me thinkin about those XL7's. Might have to check one out.
My only experience with Browning rifles comes with the A bolt, and a BL22. Both worked flawlessly, and I have heard that the X bolt is a stout gun with lots of innovative features. I may look to try one in the near future.
I'd say, JUST GET A .270 .......quickly, most all marketable guns these days shoot minute of deer or moose at the very least. Get the best glass you can afford and stick it on a budget savage, or stevens, or Marlin, etc. They all shoot great. Just make sure the glass you buy suits the terrain. Thick trees and short meadows? 1.5-5x and long shots over farmland or cutovers, get a good Leupold or Burris in 3-9 or 4-12x etc. The glass, rings, and bases are half the battle alone of shooting well.

x-bolt

i went through same problem i was looking for ruger hawkeye 270 win but ended up with x-bolt because every place i called was out of that caliber but had two 270 x-bolts so i bought one and i,m very happy with it , if you handload you,d like it the mag had tip protector and mine does,nt wonder on target with heat. i,m thinking about getting another one but don,t know what caliber to get and the other thing was it does,nt kick no more than 243 win it,s really supprising
 
I currently have a tikka 270 stainless laminate with a vx3 2.5-8 on it. It shoots 2" groups out of the box with 150gr Winchester superx loads. Haven't even started handloads for it yet. The one problem I noticed with it is that when they were putting it all together at the factory, it's mounted crooked in the stock. So it's over at mysticplayers place getting inletted and bedded. Then I'll shoot it with the same loads and see how it shoots.
 
I own a browning x-bolt and a Tikka. The Tikka will do sub-inch groups, but so will the x-bolt. The x-bolt will do that with a greater variety of loads/bullets than the T3 will. Since the x-bolt is less picky, I'm a bigger fan of it! But I do still like the T3.
