Help Me Read My Target

More targets, all shot at 200yd. The first 5 are Retumbo, orange target is H4831SC, third 5 are US869. I just got two pounds of H1000 and will finally be able to try the 300 SMK's at 200yd with it. I only have 20 brass left that don't need to be trimed so untill I get my trimmer which will hopefully be some time this week, I won't be doing any shooting. One thing about the targets is that the grids are .5" spacing, except for the orange target, it's 1" spacing. On the orange target, ignore the group (if you want to call it that) in the middle, just the four corners.

Sorry all for the ton of targets at once.

It looks like your best groups are holding at 1 1/4moa with the better groups. Your groups look alot like what I get from my LRPV 22-250. I get 5-10 shots into 1 moa.

The question is are you enjoying the groups you are getting? I enjoy experimenting as well, but with my LRPV I am at the point where it will be a new barrel soon. With the price of components for a 338 it may be worth it to go for a pac-nor or shillen pre-fit. $440 plus taxes shipping, for a 338 it doesn't take a pile of bullets/powder to make it worth while.

The retumbo loads look to be getting a bit tighter as you are going up in charge weight. Is there any pressure signs at 91.5 or could you go up another grain?

Looks like you might have something at about 77.5-78 with the 4831. Try a couple more groups with that and play with the COAL. Save your bullets from "ladder testing" at 200yds and shoot a couple more groups, unless you can get out to 500/600 than you can start ladder testing

I have the same rifle, I use Lapua brass trimmed to 2.716", 88.0 grains of H1000, federal 215 LRMag Primers and 300 grain Sierra HPBT bullets seated at 3.730" COAL. 5 rounds make a single hole at 100 yards, I get around .5 moa at 350 yards. Recently I was at a neighbors house down the road where I was able to shoot at 1200 yards. 3 shot groups were still around .6 moa. Pretty impressive shooting regulation size steel chickens at that range!!

No pressure signs yet so I could go up a bit, although i'd probably start at .5gn.

This is what I thought as well. I thought it looked promissing. I am going to try some more with that powder.

Thanks for the info! I have two pounds of H1000 now but am still waiting on my trimmer. Once I get the trimmer I'll try some of those loads and post back.

Thanks all!

H1000 Is a Shooter!

So loaded up some H1000 at 85, 86, 87, 88 and 89 grains. Seems like it's going to be a good powder. The two fowlers I shot were shot on the 86.0gn target. I never shot the 89.0 grain group, i'll do that some time this week but i'm going to focus on between 87-89 right now. I still have to test up a bit but I think this powder is going to be a shooter. One note, these target squares measure 1 inch, all were shot at 200yd.

I think i've found it!

So I think i'm done testing for now. I will do a couple more shoots to play with distance off the lands and verify consistancy but I think i've found it. Upper most shot is a cold bore shot. The next one down (my second shot) I know I pulled for sure.

Did some testing today with the OAL. I tested from just touching the lands to .030 off the lands. I found that .030 off the lands was the best for this (my) rifle. We had a gun show this weekend so I was finally able to pick up my own chrony. Of the 20 rounds I fired the slowest (all loaded at 91.0gn) was 2793 FPS, which coincidentaly is the lowest shot in target four. The fastest being 2839 FPS which is which is on the third target although I didn't mark which one it was. On the fourth target 3 of the five shots were within 3 FPS of each other, 2820, 2820 and 2823 FPS. I'm guessing those are the 3 that are touching. All were fired at 200yd and the rifle now has 295 rds total through her. I think it's finally settling in.
