Help me satisfy my nutty father-in-law. He wants an xtralong barrelled pump action

Man,I’d rather be sitting in the dory with two 36 inch barreled shoties .
Imagine two guys with short shotties, a good swell on and the ducks are coming fast and furious… lol

He wants a Mossberg 500A Regal. Factory 38" 2-3/4"-3" Full Choke. Wood stocks. NO vent rib. Probably as good as it gets.

With Barrel that long why even shoot, you can poke the duck's eye blind

For all we know the op of this thread from 2013 could be dead. I do love a good trolling operation though.

Tell your fudder in law if he’s still hunting 13 years later, barrel length doesn’t really matter and the cool kids these days run 12” barrels on their norinco box magazine 870 clones from 🇨🇳. With red dots that don’t co witness and on mounts that don’t hold zero. And a rail mount tripod on the forend because that it what the internet told them to do as a more hip alternative to shooting sticks… a lot has changed since 2013 and The biggest fad here in 2025 is asking if it’s chrome lined wanting to convert everything to take Glock magazines

I seem to recall seeing an aftermarket 36" barrel for a Remington 870 so that could be an option. Also, if he gets a really tight choked barrel and shoots steel, then he risks a bulged barrel.

It would be a unicorn to find but Remington made 34" ribbed full choke barrels for the 870 & 1100...he'd either have to shoot bismuth or have the choke opened a bit for steel provided you can find a 34" barreled model.
I have a 870 and 1100 in the 34.5 inch barrel also a marlin pump with a 40" and 38" barrel
