Took the CZ 452 and vortex diamondback 2-7x out yesterday with the goal of trying out a few different rounds. Thus I chilled on the bench, used a phone book and a box of shells for support and shot some targets. I feel good about most of my trigger pulls but Im no pro(hence asking for advice + the screen name)

Shooting 5 shot groups at 50 yards I got

0.8" winchester super x

0.8" remmy yellow jacket

1" remmy subsonic

Havent cleaned the gun in atleast 500 rounds.

I hear on the internets a ton of people getting 1 moa atleast out of their cz 452s- seems Im getting about 1.5-2 MOA here. Is it reasonable to expect better with this cheap ass ammo or should I set expectations higher?

Also my goal for this season is to set up hanging 6-9" steel targets and set them up at 100-200 yards. I figure if I spend a season shooting the crap out of those I'll be ready to start with a centerfire.... To do that I need to gauge how bulk ammo groups at 100 and 150. how the hell does one shoot for groups and test ammo at 100 yards with a 7x scope? I found 50 yards was ok but 100! I can definitely hit my 8"x8" hanging steel but a crosshair and tiny groups?

What do your groups look like? Are they vertical spread? Jerking the trigger down flinching? Side to side bad trigger control? Sporadic groups may be cheaaap ammo? Best try some higher end brands and get a decent rest. A better scope with a fine duplex may help

Get yourself a proper rifle rest to start with.

ABSOLUTELY. A proper rifle rest is a MUST when testing a rifle for accuracy.

The people that are getting MOA groups with a .22 rimfire at 100 yards are probably using Match ammunition. Buy one box of several makes and types, then find out what your rifle likes best. If possible, the trigger should be adjusted for about 3 pounds, and only a slight bit of overtravel. Then buy lots of ammunition, and practice.
