Help narrowing down my .223 purchase

I think the axis is a fine choice, I have the blued version in .223, I added a cheap $119 tasco varmint 6-24x42 scope and I couldn't be happier with my purchase.

I've got a T3 in 270 win and I love it. I've also got a 223 Axis and have wacked a couple critters with it already and have no regrets. I guess I don't know what I'm missing. Oh well ignorance is bliss;)

I need a decent scope for it now any suggestions? I'd like to keep it $200 or under if possible. I have a Tasco Varmit 6-24x42mm on my 10/22 I'm thinking I should be getting something better for longer distance or am I wrong?

If you are talking about the one at Wholesale Sports. I ordered that one for my Axis. The thing to be aware of is that that one is not the HD version which is a bit clearer. Also Bushnell is offering $75 back on any Elite scope so unless I'm missing something in the fine print it will come out to $125 and tax and shipping.

You're kidding, right? Decent and under $200. Unless it's a good deal on a used scope, look at spending at least $300 on entry level 1/2 decent glass. Higher power cheap scopes are simply junk. Period. Off to the EE you go...

$200 will be very hard...... try the tasco on the .223 1st thought and see if you like the results...

Tasco??? Are you kidding??? Those scopes are simply their recycled telescopes Walmart couldn't sell at Christmas. A good stiff breeze knocks those scopes out of "zero", if you can even find it.

Do yourself a favour and up your budget a bit.

Nikon, Burris, Redfield and yes, even the higher priced Bushnell's would be better.

the guy already has a tasco 6-24x, might as well try it before buying anything else

especially since there is nothing available with that magnification for anywhere near $200
 
I understood that, but the OP wants new glass for $200. So I understood, or maybe more accurately "presumed and concluded" from his text that he has already become aware that his existing glass is a useless piece of junk.

He already has a telescope on a .22 (presuming LR ammo) and is thinking he needs to upgrade. One can only draw a conclusion that all is not well in Camelot with that little rig, therefore why would one continue to recommend that option - that's all.
 
the way I read it is that he is happy with his tasco on his 10/22 but is thinking he should get something better for longer distances and then said $200 budget, which is impossible even buying used

Sure, the Tasco at 6-24x magnification isn't even available. I know what it says on the box but "case in point": turn the magnification on that Tasco up past 10x and look through it. Then throw it into the garbage where it belongs and buy a real scope. Anything $200 or less is useless past 9x. I'm trying to be nice here. I think you can get a good scope for $200 up to 9x, after that, you need to up your budget. As stated above, get a Nikon, Redfield, Bushnell in the $200 range and no more than 9x and you will have a decent optic. Spend another $50-$100 more for a Burris and get a good optic. Anything better or higher magnification that is good will cost $600 & up.
