Help requested in locating stolen bolts

The dies were not too common either: .43 Mauser, 8x56R Austrian, 7.62x54r Russian, and 8mm Mauser. They also took the 8x56R bullets but left the .43 mauser cast bullets I had.

The buggers even took my lee dipper spoon set but left a casting tool for 8x56R. I think Sean is right in that they didn't know exactly what they were looking for, just a quick break in I guess.

The press was the Lee anniversary set, the wooden knob broke off a while back and the screw holes have some scratches on them from my bench.

They left me a pack of bullets for my Carcano, some .43 mauser Bertram brass, and some .43 mauser lead bullets.

I feel your pain!! I recently lost the bolt for my left hand Anshutz 1416 22Lr. out of my trucks glove box. Nothing is worse than seeing that lovely rifle in my safe. Or should I say half an Anshutz..... Calgary area.

Hi Nabs...
Really sorry to hear about what happened to you. That is just... heartbreak!!! It sucks. Really.

Hmm.....
Did they take any primers? Powder?
If they were after metal the Lee plastic spoons would be of no value to them.....but the die set they left behind would be.

I'm inclined to think that someone that can't obtain ammo leagaly, took them.
Sounds disorganized so far.
Drunkards or young bucks is my guess at this point.
A real gun theif would have recognized your safe and realized that guns were inside.
And a hammer, finishing nail, visegrips is all it takes to remove the hinge pin....no need to unlock.
Most people are robbed by someone they know.
Someone that knows your reloading stuff is where it is/was.
What else was stolen?
How did they gain acess?

Print out photos of the items stolen and drop them off at local gun shops and with the Police.

Hard to ignore photos.

Even harder to ignore that Kar 88 bolt; those things stick out like a sore thumb they are just SO rare.

Hope the cops find them, throw away the key.

Good luck, friend!

Sorry for your loss. It's too late now for this incident but GET AN ALARM. My monitoring company is on the phone with me in 30 seconds if so much as the battery in my motion sensor gets low. Best peace of mind I've ever spent $27/month on.

Everyone here values their guns and equipment but so few seem to take protecting it seriously. Alarms are cheap deterrents to that sick pit in the bottom of your stomach when you realize you've joined the ranks of the victimized.

keep your eye out for the reloading equipment. maybe even post some ads locally looking to buy (top dollar paid) using a cell # not your home #. stupid people can also be greedy people sometimes. maybe you'll get lucky. probably better luck finding the reloading equipment first. then if you're lucky, the bolts. sadly those will probably be tossed once they open the lock box and don't find guns (or some other imagined treasure they thought was inside). some people's children, uggh. good luck!

Thank you for the kind words and ideas everyone. It is sad the true victims in this are the rifles themselves, you just can't quite get rid of that sick pit in your stomach after an incident like this. I have certainly learned some valuable lessons that will be put to good use in the future.

As for now and on the advice from people in the thread, I am contacting all the pawn shops, scrap metal dealers, and gun shops in my area. I'll also file a police report with the hopes someone may turn the bolts in. There is always the chance the thief threw the bolts out in a snow bank but I try not to let that bother me, I guess it doesn't help we had some heavy snow fall yesterday. As per PorkNBeans suggestion, I am also considering putting an ad in the paper, maybe I'll get lucky and the thief will get greedy again ?

I did post the Kar88 bolt number in the serial number thread on page 2 but it is 4211 e.

I'll post back with any leads that come up.

Hope you find them. Orphan Gew88 bolts are selling for over $150 on gunbroker due to all the bolt-less 88's imported to the states by Gibbs & Century a few years ago.

Nabs, sorry about the break in. Did the police attend or have anyone from their forensics section attend? If not I would request that they do. Residential break and enters are prime for recovery of fingerprints or footwear. If some are found its possible that these guys have done this before and have a record.

Any chance this is someone you know? Seems like they knew what they came for. I mean, reloading supplies? That's not something you flog in the back alley. I'm sure there were other, more sale-able items to take.

I'll also file a police report with the hopes someone may turn the bolts in.

You haven't called the cops yet? or am I mis-reading that?

Also might try your local media/newspaper ... ask them to write a human interest story : valuable military collection destroyed by theft... "reward offered"

sometimes the criminals do have consciousnesses or are kids whose parents wonder where they get these strange things they bring home.

In fact. If you are going to offer a public reward for recovery I'll pledge $100 towards that end.

I did it to get more room out of my safe and to make the storage area more secure and safe. They didn't try to get at the rifles, and they left a handful of reloading supplies but the buggers took my reloading press and my die sets.

How much room does a bolt take ?

If they were in the rifles, in the safe, you would still have them
