Help! Superglue

If the acetone is helping soften the glue try to soak the affected area overnight if you can, or wrap it in an acetone soaked rag. I'd leave it outside of you go this route because of the smell.

Lee Valley sells little bottles of 'Super Solvent' which works amazingly well on any cyanoacrylate (CA) glue, or 'super' glue.

It can cause some varnishes and paints to react badly but is usually okay, best to test first if a finish is in question. I encounter this problem because some folks insist on trying to glue cracks on their kid's violins with Krazy Glue or similar, find the repair fails either immediately or shortly after, and then I'm faced with not only cleaning and properly gluing and reinforcing the crack, but removing the CA from the finish because they weren't tidy about it at all. But on a shotgun barrel it should be fine.

Forgot to mention - I don't think there's any acetone in this stuff. Has no smell. Behaves more or less like water. Wouldn't want to drink it nor get it in my eye, but it's been fairly harmless on skin. Excellent for removing CA, even long-dried stuff, with a bit of paper towel soaked in the liquid.

Try Varsol / mineral spirits.

Will try both these methods tonight. Thank you!

I will order it just in case. Thanks for the suggestion.

If it is in fact super glue then acetone would remove it but I doubt any nail polish remover has 100% concentration regardless of what it say, if you have tried proper acetone and it has not worked I’m wondering if it’s a different adhesive perhaps a resin?

I’d agree with trying to soak it and then maybe using a brass pick to pick at it carefully, .... if anything patience will be learnt ! ... lol

I'm going at it with Acetone, Rob. Used a quarter of the bottle already. It almost feels like the glue has become baked on permanently! Feels like powder coated and dried to a sheen! Out of goo off like Suther suggested, going to get some and try that route among other suggestions - I had some success getting some glue off from in between the grooves on top of the rib using a scalpel as Magellan suggested and slowly go into each groove under a magnifying glass. I will try again some more tonight.

Do you have anyone who works in the cosmetology business?
They have access to chemicals that are not available over the counter as in higher percentages of active ingredient.
More is better , but use at your own discretion.
Rob

I have found something that works better than Goo Gone. It is called ,”Goof Off”, sold in a small yellow can at Canadian Tire in the paint remover section. Works terrific at any sticky residue or even hardened paint. Can also be bought in a big spray can to remove graffiti on exterior walls. Wear gloves and do not let your wife catch you using it in the house! WK
