Help to choose a bipod

I'm sure this has been discussed already.
I'd like a good bipod but don't want to break the bank, plus the range that I have access to is limited to bench and 200 yds.
I've bought an MDT LSS XL frame from a CGN member for my model 12 stainless, I just want to give it a new look, so my present shooting support will be used for my other rifles.
So do you have any suggestions??

Harris Swivelling Bipods are really nice. I've never wanted for more. I've tried cheaper brands that offer "Harris style" bipods and just find that they aren't near as sturdy.
 
My choice is also Harris, but there are other good brands. My advice is to not go cheap. Economy models have a lot of slop and wobble to them, nothing noticeable at under 100 yards but 200+ yards makes a big difference in your groups. You get what you pay for.
 
"not breaking the bank" is subjective. My harris brms 6-9 was $160, lots consider it spendy but there are bipods out there at 2x+ the money.

Go harris, I've had zero problems, it's easy to load up, and grab a bipod locker too if you get a swivel model. The caldwell xla has an adapter for harris models.
 
I am very pleased with my Harris, despite the fact it was the biggest one I could find it is still super sturdy when extended. I have used it for hunting song dogs from the sitting position yet I can also still make do shooting from prone. They are pretty slick I could take it off and have it on another rifle in 30 seconds or less.

What is a bipod locker?
 
Get a Harris in the length you want, put on a pod loc and some spikes instead of the rubber feet and you've got a great bipod that is still way cheaper than an Atlas.
 
I have the Harris 6-9" swivel and an Atlas. I would say go with the Harris. The Atlas is definitely NOT worth the money. The Atlas does have the advantage in being able to get you stable in weird prone situations, but I have only used that once and I really could have just shot off my bag and accomplished the same thing. It can also let you shoot from a lower position and with the legs locked in a 45 degree position forward, allows for better loading which I think is the only tangible advantage it really has over the Harris. It doesn't justify the immoral price of the Atlas though.

The Harris is well built and deploys much faster than the Atlas. I just shot a match with it and it didn't disappoint.
 
Hey OP, I'm looking for new bipod as well. Another question if you don't mind.
Which height is better for shooting off a bench ? 6-9 or 9-13 .
 
Harris swivel in the 6-9 is your best bang for the money. Add a podloc to positively lock it up. Works on just about everything. Not the best at everything but you won't regret the purchase. Notched or smooth legs is the next debate, personally I have both and makes no difference once your comfortable in the different adjustment method. I do have three mpods and love how stable they are, but for 200 yards not worth the work to sink in the rail. Ymmv
 
Harris makes a good product, I have a couple. I'm surprised no mentions have been made of the Versapod. Goes on and off a lot faster so you don't need to carry around a rifle with a bipod hanging off the end of it. I've only got one Versapod, but about a half dozen spigot bases on various rifles. Very convenient. I don't know if it is quite as stable and solid as a Harris, but for 200-yard shooting, or for any hunting shots I am likely to take, it works beautifully.

I just tried one of those out, and liked it a lot. It had more of an ability to flex forward, like the Atlas, to help with a more consistent recoil. I have a Harris and wish it had a bit more of that.
