Help to choose a bipod

8541 Tactical just did a review video on those POS knock offs couple days ago.

Better off with a Harris s-brm with pod loc at that price.

Didn't realize they were knockoffs. How can you tell?

In person I wouldn't know, never handled a fake one. On the internet the price gives it away. The real issue is if you buy one from eBay or Amazon you can ending up paying premium money for a knock off. That's why I bought mine from a known and reputed retailer. That being said for the money it would be tempting to try a knock off first. Who knows, they just might work good enough.

Harris makes a good product, I have a couple. I'm surprised no mentions have been made of the Versapod. Goes on and off a lot faster so you don't need to carry around a rifle with a bipod hanging off the end of it. I've only got one Versapod, but about a half dozen spigot bases on various rifles. Very convenient. I don't know if it is quite as stable and solid as a Harris, but for 200-yard shooting, or for any hunting shots I am likely to take, it works beautifully.

I have a Versapod and used it on my match rig until recently. While it's easier to load than a stock Harris, it's significantly heavier. I also found the location of the detents to increase the length of the legs wasn't ideal as they would often snag on anything and everything resulting in legs of varying length. Once you put some spikes on the Harris, it's no harder to load than a Versapod but much lighter. I also found that with the spigot mount, the knobs that control pan and tilt were too far forward to adjust without breaking position.

For a bench-only 200 yard range, I'd just use blocks. More stable than the cheaper bipods, which often have a fair bit of movement in the legs, which just makes preloading the bipod so much more fun.

Hey OP, I'm looking for new bipod as well. Another question if you don't mind.
Which height is better for shooting off a bench ? 6-9 or 9-13 .

QUESTION 2: I'm a big guy with a gut... which is better for prone shooting any big guys answer this? 6-9 or 9-13 I will also be on a bench but prone shoot more often.

Re Question 2.
I am a big guy who used to have a big gut and a 6-9 Harris was fine, although I wasnt able to use it on the 6" setting for prone! Same with my Versapod.

I'm a fairly avg sized guy and the few times I fired prone, I found that the 9-13 was much better for me. With the 6-9 I had to max it and sometimes that wasn't enough, especially if you aren't on completely flat terrain.

I would agree with that. I think the 6-9 might be for sitting at a bench (It's the one I have), and sometimes that might even be a bit short.

I've shot more over a tree branch , fence post , truck hood and forearm than anything . I think a wiggly bipod for shooting up to 300 yds would be fine . The ones with can't and swivel in the real world work better for hunting . I use a led sled for checking reload accuracy . I have a $30 uts, atlas knock off , Harris and smith enterprise ( Parker hale ) and use the tree branch etc more when hunting . So for casual bench shooting I would go for a cheapy and buy more ammo

Use a sandbag or anything to measure the minimum height you need to get your heart off the ground, then buy that height Harris swivel with podlock.
