Short Magazine Lee Enfield No. 1 Mark 3 (Could be Mark 3* but the " * " is faint or the rifle not modified the the later pattern as photo not clear.)
However, the Broad Arrow inside the "D" indicates Australian ownwership so it is possible not been modified. Made by Birmingham Small Arms in 1913.

The second picture is commercial proof marks with a Birmingham proof and cartridge information. The "star" stamped on the barrel underneath these proof
markings is a "sold out of Service" marking.

BSA MkIII markings, note the period after III

Later BSA MkIII* note the III is now more to the left to centralize the whole III* under the ShtLE

This is a 1911 BSA MkIII but shows what yours looked like originally.

Definitely a period, now that I am home to check. Thanks a lot for the help.

I was curious of the other stampings. The 2•222 and so on in this image

They are commercial proof stamps stamped over the original proof stamps, here is a 1911 BSA proof stamps without the commercial over-stamps.
