Help!!!!

Looking for some insight on some problems I'm having with my colt.
I realize I will have to bring it to a gunsmith for some tuning up, but looking to hear what the possible problems are. As I am new to colts.

I have a colt auto series 80 MK IV, in 38 super have not tried it with these rounds as I have not been able to find any in my area yet.

But I also have a gold cup 45 slide for it, but when I shoot it, the slide rarely stays in the open postion when the last round is fired, why?? What needs to be done to it to correct that?

I also have a par-ordinace 9mm slide for it, but when the shells eject the slide jams it, or most of the time the casing remains in the barrel and the following round jams behind the un-spent casing. Why is it not grabbing and ejecting the fired casing?

Also who do you suggest does the work on it here in BC, Dlask arms or Bits and pieces?

Thanks

Ron

The slide release is fitted for the 38 super slide and the 45 slide is not exactly the same.

On the para slide the extractor needs to be bent towards the hook just slightly then tried. If you bend it too much the rounds will not come up with the rim in the hook.

Brownells has a great book "The Colt 45 Automatic" a shop manual by Jerry Kuhnhausen.

Many thanks

The slide release I have is not the original, it is a pacmayer stainless, so I might have the same problems with the 38 super slide as the 9mm slide didn't stay open even once. I might have to change the slide release it or get it modified

I will get some one that knows what they are doing to correct the 9mm slide

You need both Kuhnhausen manuals and a Brownells 1911 catalog.

You won't regret it.

If your near Prince George, ARMCO will be able to sort out most of your issues.
9mm may use different slide stops and definatly use different ejectors.
The extraction issue with para is 99.9% probably the extractor tension. not hard to do but it needs to be right. Here is a little reading that may help.

Thanks, I will have to go to Dlask or Bits and Pieces in Delta as I am in the lower mainland.

You are right about the extractor, have been doing some more web surfing on it and everything points towards extractor. Best get a professional to set it up.

As for my other problem with the slide not staying open, I have discovered it is not the slide release but the mag followers. I discovered this test from the 1911 forum.

By just testing each mag by racking it and seeing if the slide stayed open, 4 of the 12 did so it is the mags and not the slide release. I then adjusted the mag followers by little tweaks with pliers and presto 7 of the 8 worked flawlessly. The 8th mag looks to be very cheap and beat up anyways. The after market mags had no problems, it was all the colt mags that had problems, which could be due to the mag release is not stock and after market also.

Anyone know who sells 38 super rounds in the lower mainland??
