I would not choose either of the two for a 30-06.
My preferred barrel length for either 30-06 or 270 W., is 24 inches. I have shot moose and other game, with several different rifles in those calibres and never felt compromised by the 24 inch barrels. I have hunted on steep, rugged mountains and climbed the bushy north face on some. I had one 30-06 with a barrel cut to about 21 inches and I hated it. It was decidedly harder to hit with from hunting positions.
My oldest 30-06 is an early model Husqvarna with the FN Mauser 98 action and beach wood stock that I bought in 1949. Most of my hunting was done with it with a Lyman 48 aperture sight, which made it ideal for carrying and with it I killed every thing I shot at. I couldn't begin to count how many mountain trips it has been on where it has gotten soaking wet. It stood the moisture and kept on shooting with hunting accuracy as goo as any rifle would be expected to perform. It was a perfect rifle for me.
