Henry Homesteader

I might have exaggerated when I said “horribly complicated”,
However a straight blow back pistol caliber, semi auto carbine gets filthy rather quickly and needs frequent cleaning.

The way the homesteader breaks down for cleaning is a royal pain in the a*s, and I would absolutely hate it.
Not even remotely true. One of my GHM9shasnt been cleaned in a while and still isn't filthy from shooting

I bought the first restricted one, didnt reallytry it because of the restricted BS, then bought a unrestricted, not one failure so far, super nice gun

They have been known to send some pretty pieces of wood in cases like this, hope you get something really nice!
I didn’t really know what to expect so I fixed the crack myself - it’s not perfect looking, I can still see a hair line, but it’s plenty strong.

Then I thought I might as well let Henry know, as I’d heard about their legendary customer service. Sure enough, they had been fast to offer up a replacement.

If yiu know anything about me or what I've posted in the past about them the amount I post, I've shot it quite a bit without cleaning
I’ve got a Ruger PC that’s seen over a 1000 rounds without cleaning. Still looks pretty clean after getting in with a rag and lube.

I discovered that my homesteader had a crack in the stock by the tang.

I emailed Henry and they’re sending out a new stock.

Pretty good service.
I just received mine yesterday and the stock is split at the tang as well. I think it is a combination of the wood being used. (feels of a lesser quality than my other Henry rifles) and the way they are packed. There is padding on each end of the box but nothing in the middle, pressure on the centre of the box could easily cause it to snap the stock. The retail is sending me a shipping label and I am getting a refund.

One thing I realized after shouldering it, and it does shoulder nicely is that it feels and looks very much like my CZ 512 in 22WMR. So I am just going to keep using the CZ.

You are right, these semi automatic blowback rifles are running extremely clean.

I cleaned my PC 9 after ~ 140 rounds, and here is one of the rags, as you can see, extremely clean.
Clean is in the eye of the beholder, like some people never wash their hands when they come from the washroom, but they insist to shake everybody’s hand.

While I disassembled the Ruger, I could see how well it is built and how relatively easy it is to disassemble and clean.

I am still convinced that a semi auto blowback rifle must be built for easy disassembling and cleaning, unlike the Homesteader.

I handled a NR model the other day, far too basic to be worth the 1200 price. The barrel looked like a machinist sanded it with 150grit sand paper and the forend was rediculously loose. Certainly a clean feeling and good looking design tho. Id be more interested if it went for conventional shaped Ruger PCC prices (850cad).

The Ruger is a great rifle - Likely my go-to in a PCC showdown of the ones I own.

That ain’t dirty! You should see my hands.

I agree with 3-D, my Homesteader is overpriced. I still had to have it for its mini-BAR look.

haveing not handled a ruger, im curious how it diss- asembles? can you tell me how it breaks down ?

more screws to take out it looks like.
The stock screw and the bolt handle screw both need to be removed(5/32 allen key for both) so one more then the Henry and no action bars. A couple of pins that hold the bolt face on that you need to be aware of if your stripping it down in the bush or a messy shop as they could drop out if your not aware. The design looks to be multi calber friendly if Ruger ever get's around to it.... :)

Neither one is tool less and the henry has action bars butit does not look to hard to do.

Picked one up Friday and shot 300 rounds of different makes and sizes today. . Not one problem except my old eyes had a hard time picking up the front sight against the black target at 30 yards. I’ll be putting a red dot on it and try again next week end. I really like the fit and finish and how the rifle feels. The bolt always locked back after last shot, unlike my fx-9.
Same here - I sent mine back to FO / Wolverine a couple of years ago and they did some work on it and it has locked back consistently since. But moot point given what happened last week.

I know they have more slated to be banned in February, but I'm going to pick up a Homesteader soon. I too worry about the bad old eyes (which were bad eyes before I even got old) and will put a red dot on it, which I know will look weird, but I'm always a function over form guy anyways...will give a range report once I grab one in the next 1-2 weeks.

I picked one up this week Got to test it out quick before it was lost in a tragic fishing accident.
Anyways. I swapped to the Glock magwell right away and had 2 10 round mags to try.
Not 1 issue and we fired 100 rounds

The rear sight I’m not a huge fan of. Maybe it’s just me and need more practice. But I feel a traditional rear sight would have suited the rifle quite well.
