Henry Homesteader

I've got 2 of the Homesteaders and now have about 400 rounds through each of them. I would much rather still be able to use Beretta CX4 or Ruger carbines but the Henry is "ok" and of course they have a traditional look to them that most 9mm PCC's don't. So they look sort of old school cool like a Winchester 1907 or something. They are also pretty heavy compared to other PCC's.

My chief complaint is that the firing pin strike is somewhat weak compared to most other PCC's I've used. This causes FTF with some rounds of ammo that uses harder primers. This is more of an ammo problem than a rifle problem I would say. I haven't even looked to see if there is a simple way to increase the striking force yet, so if anyone has any idea let me know.

I haven't really dug into the internals of the Henry much, just to swap the mag adapters. One obvious shortcoming of the Henry is how the charging handle attaches. It's not that difficult to just pull out as it's just a tab that slides into a slot. In fact I accidently pulled one out and didn't notice it and found it rattling around.

I guess I'll have to wait and see how they perform once the round count gets higher. The PCC platforms I have the most experience with were Beretta - bulletproof, easy to mount optics, easy takedown for cleaning but crappy trigger. Ruger- bulletproof but more of a pain to take down. Trigger was fine. Easy optic or accessory mounting with lots of mlok space on handguard. Vector- Easy take down, mostly reliable, trigger is fine, easy optic mount.

The Henry trigger seems ok or at least it works fine for what I'm doing with it. Looks like stripping will be a bit involved. Pain in the butt to mount a red dot as I had to order rails and they weren't super easy to track down. They really should include them in the box. The wood stock is a nice change in some respects. I don't see anything wrong with the wood although I think some people on this thread. have got cracked stocks. RIght now my only peeve is I want more firing pin power. The ammo I am using worked fine in everything else I've tried it in.

I'm not out shooting as much in the winter so 5000 round count reports will have to wait. Hopefully there is an election and reversal before we get to that point anyway! :)
 
The lack of a rail in the box is hard to understand for sure, sounds like Justin has pulled the plug and wants to let some other loser lose the next election for him later this year.
 
It’s easy to understand in my opinion. 90% of users are going to use it with irons I think.

Rail isn’t hard to find same rail as their lever guns. Which also don’t include rails and no one says anything.

I live in a modern world of endless options, charge me an extra $20 if you need to and put the rail in the box..... it ain't rocket surgery.... :)

What a person wants to run on their rifle is up to them, I don't see a lot of rifles these days with irons sights, likely due to many people prefering modern optics.... if 90% of Henry buyers love Iron sights that's a healthy trend, and one that's easy to understand on lever guns..... 9mm carbines?

Yeah, they had the fore sight to include a Glock adapter as they were smart enough to know that aspect of their clientele but dumb enough to not think that many people also may want to throw on the most common of accessories- an optic?

In contrast you see other manufacturers that offer a number of useful accessories like rails and mlok attachments already in the box so you can set your rifle up right away and not have to wait for bits and pieces. At least the Glock mag adapter makes the Homesteader more versatile and usable for the many people that have a supply of Glock mags!

I would not be surprised if Henry remedies this down the road, they seem pretty good at responding to their customers from what I've seen.
 
Got Leupold VX-Freedom 1.5-4x20mm on my Homesteader groups not too bad for a blowback PCC @100m with 124gr FMJ American Eagle ammo.

I like good irons, don't really like those barrel mounted peeps so much.
9mm is a sub 100m cartridge to me, regardless of the Inglis HP tangent 500m optimism lol.
Put the peep on the rear of the receiver like normal rifles, or throw a rail in for a red dot.
