The original 1905-07-10 were steel..must be why after a 100 years..yhe gun still works as it should. They appear to be cast aluminium and are anything but cheap, they feel like great quality on both of my homesteaders

So you compare a gun with a red dot sight to other guns with open sights?Hi Folks. I picked up a Henry Homesteader a week ago from Cabelas. Packaged it with a Vortex Solar Sparc,
Super accurate. I have a Sub2000 Gen3, S&W FPC, Ruger PC9 (with open sights) and the Henry is by far the most accurate.
Charge handle flew off about 50 rounds in. Good thing I wasn't out walking in a field.
Front stock was loose out of the box. Had it snugged up before I left the store.
One of the pins started to work it way out and I needed a punch to get it back in
Front site came loose
Rear stock came loose
Overall I love the gun. I bought it thinking that I would sell it once my other three carbines became legal again (fingers crossed) but I will definitely be keeping this one. One final thing to add, and it's no fault of the gun itself. Being that it is a wood stock, I got about 9 dings in the rear stock after my first use from brass deflecting at the range. Obviously this hasn't been an issue for my plastic stock carbines.
Holy #### what’s going to fall off next?!Hi Folks. I picked up a Henry Homesteader a week ago from Cabelas. Packaged it with a Vortex Solar Sparc, put the Glock Maxwell in and made two range trips totalling about 150 rounds.
First trip to the range:
Fired flawlessly
Mag seats well

Ya they are great guns, and solidly built top qualityim over 3000 rounds now with mine. had nto tighten front site once other than that she hasnt skipped a beat
Your Johnson at about 75-80 years old!.......Holy #### what’s going to fall off next?!
Only one of the four have open sites. So you compare a gun with a red dot sight to other guns with open sights?
lots of issues for a gun you love so much
I fear the worst
The Henry doesn't seem to be on the list, Garand and SKS as well.
M1 Carbine's and some mag fed semi shotguns were added
Check if the forestock is seated correctly, and make sure the front retaining screw is tightened down snugly (but DON'T OVERTIGHTEN, that's endgrain and might split). As far as I'm concerned, that's a design flaw, because that screw should have a washer spreading out its clamping load. The forestock on mine is loose did I lose something when I cleaned it?
