Henry Homesteader

Any other left handers here?

Does this blow flaming bits of crud in your face, like every semi auto right-ejecting 9mm carbine I've shot does?

Does it send the brass into next week, or is ejection a bit more gentle?

I do have a pile of 9mm brass; the brass goblin in me just hates losing it
 
I'm a lefty, brass deflects away however cheap ammo (winchester white box) have does have some powder blow back. Blaser not so much. wear your safety glasses

I love my homesteader. I never had any problems with it, even when it was brand new and not "broken in". Accuracy wise, with a x1 prism scope I can consistently hit the gong at 100m from the standing position. Would recommend.

How does the top rail system attach to the rifle (4 screws on top of the receiver, any attachment points on handguard section or is it free floating) and will it work with the Midwest Industries M-lok Handguard?

Is the jamming that big of an issue, I haven't heard any such issues, but maybe I haven't looked in the right places.

Mine has never jammed or had a hiccup of any kind.

Maybe when they first released it there were some problems?

I bought mine November of 2025 and it's been flawless. Around 5-600 rounds so far. Haven't even cleaned it yet even though it looks like it needs it.... LOL.
 
I ended up buying one, and it runs well.

The rear sight is utter sh|te, though. Had to just about crank it out of its base to get the thing zeroed, and now it wobbles. The ring is also too thin for my eyes.

I bought a Skinner for it, but now that's become a whole deal where I need a taller front sight, which I'm still waiting for.

Yeah, the sights come loose and wobble too... that's the only complaint I have with it. Gotta loctite them.

I grabbed a Ranger Point Precision rail and put an optic on it. Problem solved. 😉
 
I've commented on this thread before. The same complaints- should have come with a rail, sights are barely screwed on, need to loctite the hell out of them if you want them to stay on. Light strikes with some "tough" primer ammo but fine with what we would call normal aka federal, winchester, pmc etc.

My biggest complaint is that the buttstock cracks.

I have 3 Homesteaders and I've had cracked buttstocks on two of them. At the tang. This was after over 5000 rounds per gun so... The stocks were warrantied at no cost to me. I don't think this is a failing of the actual wood- the wood seems fine. I think that they should maybe bed the stock even with a cheap fix of hot glue or similar.

Homesteader is what we are left with after all the bans and they really do work just fine and if you want a "traditional" looking carbine the Homesteader is your Huckleberry.

But I would way rather have a Beretta CX Storm or a Ruger PCC
 
I just put a Williams WRGS peep on the first 2 receiver holes, same one that fits Marlin 336, screws didn't even need to be shortened, they actually were the right length lol.
It's adjustable for windage and elevation, and I think it's going to be fine with the front sight.
Sight picture is much more what I'm use to now.
I played with the original irons, I tried red dots, never put a scope on it, but in my limited experience, these cry out for decent irons, rear peep on the receiver, front post is fine.

My question is, WTF is that rear Henry sight screw thread? It's small, it's not 6-48, I would like to fill it with a blind screw if I can find one...
 
I was looking at this rifle a while back, but I think these are kinda "hit or miss" in the function department .
Take a look at this these 2 video's. I dunno....do I really want to take the chance of getting a lemon.

there is a PART 2 of this Video where he sends it back for repair with poor results.

6-48 is the standard thread for most modern firearm scope bases, it has 48 threads per inch (TPI) for a fine, more secure grip. 6-40 is a less common #6 size with 40 TPI, typically used in older or specialized applications. Both have a roughly 0.138-inch diameter, but 6-48 is preferred to prevent loosening, if the one on the henry is 6-48 and the 6-48 filler looks like it should fit and doesnt, then its a 6-40, if the 6-48 filler is way too small, then its likely an 8-40 (my ruger gunsite just took 8-40 after i took the rail off and wanted to fill them)

Hitzy, can you post a pic of yours with the sight on it ?

Send Henry an email, they will likely send you a few for spares.
They are wickedly tiny, I'm not sure what the thread pitch is.

The rear filler holes are 6-48...lol.
I think I grabbed some odd ball filler screw first time, ones I knew were 6-48 threaded right in.

I like Honest Outlaws videos but I have waaaaayyyy more experience with these rifles than he has and I would say that he had a rare bad experience. You should read the posts on this thread (including mine) and then decide for yourself.
 
I just received my new Homesteader and 3 things I noticed:

1. With a full Magpul PMAG, the magazine is difficult to seat on a closed bolt and requires extra upward pressure to achieve positive engagement.
2. The action bars on mine were extremely tight. I had to use a punch and a non - marring hammer to remove them.
3. the rear peep sight has a lot of play.

It otherwise looks like a solid rifle. Looking forward to shooting it!
 
I couldn't get on with the peep sight, threw a cheap green dot on it and it has significantly tightened up my groupings. I've got 5 gl9 10rd pmags and they've worked perfectly for me.

I have the same issue with the action bar, I was thinking of lightly filing down the action bar to fix the problem.
The only thing that is holding me back is I wonder whether those action bar are heat treated ? Filing down a heat treated part is probably NOT a good idea.
