Are there any significant differences in the standard henry .22 and the golden boy version. Is the receiver just made of different alloy? Do they perform equally?

The golden boy has:
- Octagon Barrel heavy barrel
- Nicer steel sights with brass tips
- Higher cost
- scope rail optional and extra$

The regular .22:
- has a dove tail style rail for mounting scope
- steel sights aren't as nice or easy to see through
- lighter due to lighter barrel
- less money

I bought the Golden Boy over the standard version because I thought the sights were worth the extra money... and all that polished brass makes you feel like a cowboy.

:agree:
And the fit and finish on the golden boy is incredible...it's definetely worth it !! Just a beautiful gun!

I have the H001, and I am very , very happy. It's a never sell gun.

The sights are the only thing I will be changing.

either way, you'll be happy.

I have owned both, both are great, I ended up keeping the h001 because I was always worried about messing up the golden boy if I hunted it. Both a very accurate, I replaced the semibuckhorn sight on the h001 with a williams foolproof peep sight and absolutely love the gun. The goldenboy was a pleasure to shoot and I very much want to pick up another. I may go the frontier route though which is pretty much the golden boy without the brass reciever.

The H001 basic lever rifle also has a flatter stock to receiver angle so it works better with a scope. The GB really is set up more for using the plain iron sights. With the scope adapter you'd end up with more of a "chin weld" than a "cheek weld" to the stock when sighting through the scope.

Get best of both worlds and go for the frontier model...ready to scope and the same barrel and sights as the golden boy! and the cheek weld angle is the same as the basic model. Mine shoots 3/4 inch at 50 yards with mini mags and 1-2" with bulk ammo

I shot my friends GB. I could not get a proper "cheek weld" so shot it very poorly(for me). His barrel mounted Skinner peep sight was very nice tho.
Definitely handle/shoot one before you buy....

I have both. Given the CDI factor, the Golden Boy wins hands down. For function, golden boy! If you are looking at accuracy, I have not scoped my GB buts it's easily minute of gopher/pop can at 50 yards. The sights are an issue, the semi buckhorn takes some getting used to of the GB since you can scope it but...it's the intent of the GB not to be scoped out of the box.
Given the issue, go get a GB if you want the sweet handling of a great plinker with iron sights and a hell of a gun to save and cherish. If you wants a similar rimfire, get the frontier with the ability to scope with the heavy barrel and ease of not scratching the brass. If you want the entry henry lever, it's been a good companion on range trips and everyone like to shoot (just don't show a novice your GB, they tend to drop, scratch or do the OOPS thing). You can scope the entry Henry and have a reasonable shooter with enough funds for a decent scope, ammo and reasonable case to protect your investment.
Let us know what you end up doing!

^^^^what he said^^^^^ l let and old guy shoot mine at the range and everytime he cycled the action he banged the stock on cement table! And put three gouges in the wood!
