Just picked up a Henry lever .22lr, what a nice little carbine. Nothing more fun than the old style tactical carbine! My GF is a lefty shooter and loves it too. If anyone has thought of one I say go for it, The action is smooooth right out of the box. Can't wait to see what its like after a couple thousand round. The bunnies better whatch out this weekend!:D
 
I purchased a Henry Golden Boy lever action for my buddy as a wedding gift. I was impressed with the fit and finish and the wood they used.

Not sure how long the brass coloring on the BrassLite receiver will last but it looks good for now, plus the retro look is a real bonus.

I have been tempted to get one myself so I dont forget how to use iron sights.

Is your's the carbine with 16-1/8" barrel and large loop lever??? See them on the Henry website but not in stores, yet.
 
I bought an Octagon version (H001T?) for my son to shoot the cheaper .22lr rounds. Every time we take it to the range I end up shooting it and having a blast.
It now wears a 2.5x fixed powered compact scope (for my eyes) and my son seems to like the set up also.
Every once in a while I think about selling the Henry because it doesn't fit in with my "Black Guns" collection....but the thought gets erased after a session with it at the range;)
 
I have the Frontier model. Its super accurate and very smooth. The only problem I have with the Henrys is that the metal finish is more of a paint than blueing, but other than that its awesome
 
I bought a used one a year or so ago, and it's a great little rifle. You're right about that action being butter-smooth, it's really nice. Happy shooting!
 
Mine is the carbine but with an 18.5" barrel. I think the octagonal is a 20". I like it so much I'm thinking of getting the varmint version in 17hmr. Took it to the range today and had no problem with it at all. Didn't have one cartrage fail to fire, my 10/22 used to have half a dozen every range session. I'm looking forward to using it this weekend for rabbit.

Are they similar to the Winchester 9422 in apperarance? How does the trigger feel?

I see they are going for a very reasonable price considering the machining and wood work in that type action. Looks like a nice hunting Rifle.:)

Just looked at a Henry Carbine (16-1/8" barrel; large lever loop) and the sights were pretty poor.

The wood was okay but not as nice as I recall the Golden Boy having. Also the forestock was loose, so I was kinda disappointed.

Was at the WSS in Calgary for $320. If sights were better and forestock tight, I would have seriously considered it.

That's because the reciever on the H001 Models wears an "Aluminum" skin covering the inner reciever and workings.......it is Paint:p
The only blued parts are the barrel and lever.

But given it's an aluminum alloy of sorts it's also easy to strip off the paint and give it that old classic "Case Hardened" look, or even just polish it up to a bright nickel look :cool:

The sights are not amazing but work fine. The loose forestock was loose on mine also and I took this tool called a screwdriver and tightened the little screw in the band and magicaly it was fixed. For the money it is hard to beat, and having a lefty around it was an easy choice. I know they will mutiply, soon there will be one chambered in 17hmr.
 
The basic sights are junk, but you can buy an upgraded (steel) replacement. If you buy one of the frontier models, they have waaaay better sights. After buying my son a youth lever when he was six, I had to get myself one too. Now upgraded to the frontier for myself, with a nice octagonal barrelled pump to keep it company.
 
Henry makes a not bad lever for the price, but if you are going to shoot many thousands of rounds through it, or want to be able to hand it down for genrations, it is not the one I would pick. Too much plastic and soft metal parts that wear out fairly quickly. The Brwoning, Winchester and Marlin 39 are all better built, but they are more money.

For the price hte Henry's shoot pretty good, and the action is smooth.
 
I too am not happy with the plastic front sight, I emailed Henry to see if I can get a metal one. Better yet the fire sights on the varmint version. As far as the aluminum goes, the 10/22 has an aluminum receiver and trigger group housing and they seem to last a long time and they cycle a lot faster than a lever. We will see how it lasts, it will be used quite a lot.
 
Just a quick update, I contacted Henry about the plastic sight and I was told they haven't made a rifle for about 2 years with them. They have changed to metal, so I asked if I could purchade a metal one from them. I guess because I just bought the rifle new they are sending me a new sight free of charge. The Henry customer service seems to be excellent!
 
How are the .22 magnum's? I've seen the .22 long rifle version, but don't understand why it jumps so much in price for the .22 mag. Is it a better finished gun?
 
I got a H001 a few weeks ago, the sights are shooting about 2 in. left at 30y, there's no lateral adjustement, anyone had the same experience, any ideas to solve this?
 
Unlike a scope most blade amnd Buckhorn open sites are adjusted left right by tapping them in their cross slot. You can either move the front site or the back site by tapping them left or right to adjust them. Use a brass drift and small hammer to move them the required amount.

The 22 Magnum versions come with a "Deluxe checkered stock" vs the standard non checkered,smooth one.

This is the only difference between my 22 mag and 22 model :)
