Henry Single Shot Deer Rifle

The only time I needed a second shot was once while bow hunting. So go t’town with whatever single shot that suits yer fancy. I have a scoped Savage 218 in 30/30. Well balanced; 26” bbl (shoots 1 1/4” @ 100 yds); light ; perfect fer deer.

I've got a Henry in 243. Trigger is brutal but I haven't sent it away for the recall yet, I hear it's much better after.

My other issue is scope mounting. With the standard weaver brand rail I can't get my scope back for enough, I either need a scope with a longer tube or a different mount, even offset rings are probably not enough to get it back far enough for me. Someone mentioned a different mount that should help in another thread but for the life of me I can't find it now...

Wood is nice. Fit and finish is pretty good. Personally I have no love for the 450 bushmaster, I'd go 45-70 as it can do everything the 450 can and then some (plus 450bush uses .452 pistol bullets and I'd rather use .458 rifle bullets as I don't see a lot of 452 bullets over 300gr)

I already have a couple 'big bores'. I was looking for a foul weather rifle for those days when I don't want to take a Marlin 1895 in 45-70Gov or 444Marlin out in the crappy weather.
I'd considered a CVA Scout in 45-70Gov, but the flatter shooting 444, similar to a 450, fits my needs better. Plus, I already have a decent stock of reloading components.

I found, a CVA Scout in 444Marlin at Prophet River a month or so ago. I'm not a fan of brakes, I asked PR to remove muzzle brake before shipping, it's still in the box. I've had no time to get to range.

Don't let the barrel length of a CVA Scout miss lead you into thinking they are excessively long. At 25" - 3" brake (did I say I hate breaks) = 22" includes chamber and there's no receiver. I'd hazard to guess the CVA is shorter than my 22" Marlin 1895 444Marlin.
If I get to hate the plastic hardware, Boyds has wood.

Since I'm single loading, the CVA should be able to handle the 'long in the tooth' 44cal heavy revolver bullets, ie Swift A-Frames & 300gn Sierras, that my Marlin 1895 444Marlin doesn't like to cycle.
444Marlin Max. OAL ~2.570", data for 44cal Swift bullets in a 444Marlin lists an OAL of 2.620".

I have a cva 450bm scheduled to be delivered by canada post tomorrow... what height are your scope rings? I was thinking I'd go with a medium height to put a 50mm obj scope on, yours look to be pretty low... what size is that scope?

I suggested the EGW picatinny base, I got mine on Amazon but not sure they sell that kind of stuff anymore.

I never had a recall done but having used pre and post recall guns the difference is night and day. If it’s sitting waiting for a scope mount I can’t recommend sending it for the recall enough

Medium rings with a Vortex Diamondback 2-7*35 Rimfire. Note it's called a Rimfire because the Parallax is set at 50 yds. I like the nice simple clean X-hair and 60+ feet FOV.
