Henry Single Shot Deer Rifle

Since I last posted here I have done the trigger recall on my Henry, and it is WAY BETTER.

I've also bought an EGW Rail for it. It has helped the scope mounting issue, but not completely eliminated the problem. Even with the youth length stock I got (which is 1" shorter LOP) I'm STILL not quite satisfied with how far back I can get the scope. Will have to keep an eye out for a scope with a longer tube or a lot of eye relief next time I've got some spending cash.

Or buy extension rings. Cheaper than buying a new scope.

On the Henry single shot I had, I did not like the height of the hammer and had to mount the scope higher than I would like on the barrel to clear it, which in turn left a crappy cheek hold. I ended up moving it along.

I did not find that with the CVA scout at all. Scope was mounted at a good height and still low enough to get a good cheek hold. Only reason I moved the cva along was I got a new ruger #1. Would not hesitate on another cva scout at all, and would prefer that over the henry single shot.

The Ruger #1 has its own issues of scope mounting, but once I replaced the stock rail, I was able to mount the scope I had back far enough to still have a good cheek hold. It is a much nicer rifle, but also 4X the cost. The only thing I miss about the cva is the ability to have a round in the chamber and pull the hammer back only when ready to shoot. The ruger has no external hammer.

I can't speak to the henry rifle or the round but I've hunted moose with a NEF chambered in 30-06 for 15 years and I can't bring myself to change to something "better". I've never not tagged out, rarely needed a second shot and even when I did you can reload a hinge rifle pretty quickly. So all I can say is don't let the fact that it's a single shot be the reason you say no.

If you’re wanting a camp gun, maybe something like a lever or pump.
Singles are a tad slow when or if bigg’un teefth are getting bigger.

That 358 BLR would of been a likely candidate.

Let us know how or what you garnered. 🎯

Have you tried a red dot on that rifle? If it's okay for your hunting style they sure work on a hinge barrel

I had a few prerecall Henry's. Trigger was terrible and weren't terribly accurate. I bought a CVA Scout and mine in 243 puts them through a nice ragged hole at 100y.
Have the new Henrys been through the recall? I keep thinking I'd like to have one in 30-30 for no good reason whatsoever other than I have all the loading kit. <eye roll>

Not really applicable to the hunting I do, the suggestion is appreciated though.

Yes. New models should have the new trigger components that were part of the recall.

I love my CVA Scout takedown rifle.
Awesome hunting rifle for bad BC rain days (which is most days, let's be real). It's compact, simple and effective. Very accurate barrel and takes down into 3 pieces in 5 seconds. Highly recommend
