It took me over 4 hrs, but I completed my conversion last night.
I thought, I would share my experiences here.
The fit and quality of the HERA was good, but not perfect.
- The cut in the Magpul to accommodate the catch piece was done, but I had to do more filing before it fitted. (30 min wasted)
- Remember to cut the spring down 8mm.
- The hole for the pin above the trigger was a little too big, the pin would fall thru. (Thanks DoHHunter, you are right, once it is assembled, it does not matter) But, I would be more comfortable, if it fitted like the OEM.
Other than that, everything else fitted together nicely.
The elbow spring was a #####, I used a string to load the spring, then put in the locking lever.
The instruction had two elbow springs, one on each side, but my SL8-4 only had the left one, which matched the SL8 parts diagram. Does the G36 have two elbow springs?
I could not remove the pin that holds the backplate in place, so I had to hack the pin and fabricate a new pin. (1 hr lost)
Now, the ACR folding stock also need filing before the hole aligned properly (another hour lost)
If I had to do it again, I think I can do it in an hour.
Now, my SL8 is looking sweet. Time and money well spent, now all I need is a trip to the range.
Thanks to Wolverines for the parts.
hope this helps
