HERA Gen 2 SL8 lower and Spuhr G36 mag adaptor review

As an update, I finished building this SL8 into what I wanted. I managed to secure a UTG low-profile rail which is actually lower than the stock SL8-4 rail while at the same time providing a lot more clearance for working the charging handle. I went with high TPS rings and a Bushnell Elite Tactical 6-24x50 illuminated BTR reticle. I also added an H&K re-inforced polymer lower rail, ADM QD bipod mount and a Harris bipod.

This is how H&K should sell the SL8 (but obviously they should leave the rings and optics up to the individual shooter). Maybe they should also offer multiple barrel profiles as options instead of just the bull barrel as not everyone is a bench shooter. But a replaceable grip, solid anodized aluminum low-profile rail, accessory forearm rail for a real bipod (as opposed to the crappy non-adjustable $300 G36E bipod), and a folding stock with quick-adjust length of pull and cheek piece height are HUGE improvements over the stock SL8 offerings. I'm now very happy.

Where did you find the top rail and for how much???

Nice write up. I have almost the same rifle.
SL8-4 with Hera gen 2 and ACR stock. HK bi-pod, UTG aluminum rail, I can't remember what brand the AR mag adapter is but I usually just use the HK one since I have 3 5/30 Dominion mags and 2 factory 5 round mags.

So where did you find your UTG top rail??

“You do have to remove the recoil buffer plate and buffer from your SL8 and re-use it in the HERA lower. The manual makes NO MENTION of this fact, it only alludes to the white rubber buffer being removable with a pair of needle nose pliers. This is true, but totally useless information since you should not remove the buffer. The whole plate has to come out and is moved over with the buffer in place. So take note - don;t flog your old SL8 stock while you wait for your HERA lower to arrive unless you remove the buffer assembly first!”

Yeah im having a hard time figuring out how to remove this and swap it to the Hera. Any suggestions??
