HERA H6 Rifle .223 Rem 18" Non-Restricted

For those claiming safety concerns. The Styer HS-50 M1 version used a side mag system. You can find all the blow out and teeth knocking concerns in those old threads. No actual problems from users. Steyr makes high end firearms. The Hera stuff I’ve used, including a full ambi AR lower (first two in Canada), were top notch and high quality.

Not sure it’s for me, but it does have advantages and the side mag system has already been tried/true with a 50 bmg bolt action.

They solved the double stack feeding problem in an unconventional way. If you use a two lug bolt, it's next to impossible to get the magazine high enough to strip the rounds correctly without having feeding errors like crazy. To get a 3 lug bolt to feed is even harder, it not impossible, if you have one lug at the top and the other two at 120* and 240*. Alternative is to flip this to one lug pointing down, so it fits between the magazine lips. Doing this then creates problems with the trigger position and your cocking piece.

They've put the magazine out of the plane where the trigger/cocking piece area to get around this. From the looks of it, it appears to be a 60* throw, so triple lug format. To have one at 270* for the magazine, the other two are in an unconventional position, but it avoids the cocking piece.

They wanted to do a bolt gun with AR double stack mags and they made it work. That aside, I think the grip/butt could have been a more elegant design, pretty cool rifle!!

Very interesting take, and info.

If you were looking to put the detachable AR carry handle A2 sight and the corresponding front, they'd be double the size to be in-scale of the photo that you've shown.

oh, and yeah, you'd be crazy... not necessarily for the sight choice, but for dropping $1600 on one of these - but hey, ymmv.

Ya I figured I got the proportions wrong, but the idea is still there.
I am looking for a "Scout" style rifle in 223 that is light weight. Not coming up with many options so this is in consideration.

Isn't this where the obligatory "make it 9mm that takes Glock mags and I'm in" comment always pops up? This rifle makes zero sense to me. A bolt action that is constantly canting my sight with a full mag due to weight? Big no thanks here.

I was looking for the cz600 trail but the last time I looked it wasn't a tack driver even for what it is. The bolt wasn't very slick... so I ordered that rifle.

It is moa or better, light Ar magazine and folding stock with picatilly rail.
Now waiting ,time will tell if I made a good choice but Voere have always been hi quality rifles!
