Herters Cabela's

I'm curious what their 22LR is like? I got 2 bricks and yet to get out to test.

Picked up 2 bricks awhile ago when on sale at Bass Pro for $25.19 each plus tax, I consider it plinking ammo. Shot through the buckmark pistol & rifle with only 1 failure to fire, so not too bad IMO

I bought a couple of boxes for my 300 Win Mag and it actually shot pretty well for cheap ammo. I basically bought it for the brass but I was able to shoot 5 shot groups into just over an inch. Hopefully, the brass will hold up for a few reloadings.

Incorrect, that article is back from 2014 and is out of date. Cabela's has Winchester manufacture the ammunition at this point. That being said I am referring to the herters ammunition you can buy in Cabela's Canada. I do believe there is more variety of Herter's ammunition in the US (I've seen steel case ammo and other current production ammo with differing headstamps that don't seem to be available in Canada)

That's what I was told as well.

A couple of my 22's get decent results with the 22lr. Surprisingly my Savage MKII BVSS doesn't like ejecting them. Which is odd because it is usually my least picky gun.

I just bought a case of 20ga 7 1/2 and two boxes of 30-30. My ammo stash fell under a million rounds the other day, so am restocking. Darn boat came apart right in the middle of the lake.

Herter's went bankrupt in the mid seventies and were sorely missed.

They were one of the last really big mail order houses that catered to the do it yourself types and their products were always top quality.

There were others of course but Herter's were ahead of their time.

Cabela's bought up the name brand and use it to promote proprietary offerings.

I haven't used this particular ammo but that doesn't mean there's anything wrong with it.

Yes I heard something similar.

One of the older Winchester plants was sold off and is now producing Herter's ammo for Cabela

Anyone seen 7mm Rem Mag? Cabela's website says "Purchase in store only." I looked at the stores' inventory across Canada. Most have none in stock, a couple say "Limited availability." In the past I have found that statement to mean "none left."

Anyway, the price is OK, if they re-stock.

If its being made by winchester maybe thats the problem - my Savage MkII doesn't like to eject wildcats or 333/555 ammo.

Since it's purchase by Cabela's the Herter's brand is basically a lowest bidder sort of deal. Sometimes you get a decent company like Winchester or S&B on the supplying end, sometimes not. It's never any one supplier. It's priced well that's for sure.

Maybe that's why my 300 Win Mag shoots fairly well and the 6.5 Creedmoor shot like crap.

Just got back from my buddies farm. With my savage 12 FV in 6.5 creedmoor, using the herters ammo, hit the gong at 300 yards consistently. Didn't shoot any groups with it but it works for less expensive plinking ammo:)

I've tried some of the .308 150 grain out and was pretty impressed for such cheap ammo, the blr.308 loves this stuff,I'm only shooting2 inch groups with it at 100 years ,but that's good hough for whitetail hunting and coyotes .

My tikka t3x 30-06 doesn’t like herters one bit. It’ll shoot most anything into a 1.5 inch group at 100 metres. Herters it’s a 3 inch’er all day long. Got 2 boxes of it in a trade lot so no big loss but it sure shoots like crap from my rifle.
