It would be my first gun. Always liked the M14. She wasn't overly pleased when I got my PAL and I guess that was the foreshadowing to this.

we own a house together, etc; basicly married. I'm trying to guilt her - took off last night for a couple hrs...slept in guest room, etc. Doesn't seem to be working. So I cancelled preorder. Can always call back if she changes her mind.

Mike

It is always easier to ask for forgivness then it is to get permission.

You know, no matter what you do, your always wrong....... might as well be "wrong" while stroking your new M14 :D

since it's going to be your first, you REALLY should sit down and think about it- it CERTAINLY wouldn't be mine, and i was TRAINED on the thing- as to how practical it is, that's up to you- first , it's GAS gun- that means it's fussy -and then you have to be prepared to clean it-A LOT- second, it's BIG- 47 INCHES LONG AND about 11 and a half pounds- THIRD- YOU have the 175 grain upper limit- anything beyond that is tough on the action- first gun?- BOLT ACTION 308 or 06- something simple, 5 rounds, and you can carry all day( and there will be days that you see NOTHING) and you can scope that bolt a LOT easier than the 14- a good mount for the 14 runs a couple of c-notes or more
and lest you think i'm disparaging the 14, i'm not- i've got 4 of the things- but first gun NO WAY

you, sir are screwed .... and i feel for you..... but......
you have a decision to make......hehehe , freedom in life and in your marriage/relationship
no offense but your girl has the markings of an ANTI . to avoid any further grief over the issue, you must decide... do you want to be a liscenced law abiding firearms owner or not. It's your life, your personal freedom, your decision, make it and move on. bottom line is you might only own half of the posessions, ie: house, car and contents..... but, and i don't mean to be rude...... but.... you do own your own balls hehehehe

I know what i would do and 12 years wouldn't mean a whole lot if my gal could not and would not trust me to A)spend money following my passions as i see fit and B) own and use firearms for thier intended lawfull purpose.

i cant just ditch the GF of 11 years

This just may be the reason she isn't enthusiastic about your gun purchases....

GF of 11 years.........ie basically married, common law spouse......but in the end, not married and no rock on the finger.

I'm not saying...but just saying.... :kickInTheNuts:

we should have a "loaner " barett 50 that we can ship to all the guys that have "money problems" with their spouses- that way, when this "thing" shows up at the door, they can appreciate how LITTLE we actually spend- lol

To paraphrase a sucky 1970s poster,

"If you love somebody, buy a gun.

If she loves you she will support your joy.
If she busts your balls, it was never meant to be".

That's it, another that is control by a women. Is it a hobby for you or her?
You are going to tell us that if she really want something and you don't want her to get it, she won't? Bullsh$$t she got you by the balls.
I would never stay, and never did with a women that want to control me.
I do my hobby she does her's.

u guys are f**ked if 1 rifle is worth tossing 11 years.... hilarious.

I don't think that's quite what they mean. Its the principle.

Today its a rifle.... tomorrow its something else. You are the man. Put your foot down or put on the apron;)
