I love the SKS!

I handled a few in the stores now and again but never bit the bullet. I am a bit of a fudd hunter and prefer bolt action rifles...

On a whim I picked up a Tula 1957 great condition Non refurbished, all blued metal, just mint... And wow I love it.

I have not even shot it yet but what an awesome rifle this rifle is at such a price!

One question with my rant... To shoot or not? This puppy is really nice no markings at all on the bolt cover, all serial numbers matching. The only drawback is that the stock was sanded and refinished before.

Buy another while they're cheap! Save the nicest and shoot the hell outa the other. Ride it hard and put it away wet so to speak. And I do mean wet if your using corrosive ammo. Which you should be if really shootin that *****

Whatever you already have, you will be more impressed when you find an un-refurbed example with the cartouches around the front stock bolt.

Man I must be the crazy one here! I hate the SKS!!!

When I saw them at crappy tire, with the nice bayonet attached, and the vintage year, Man Had to have one. Shelled out the money, bought a crate of ammo, then went and bought a mosin and svt40 and a crate of that ammo at the same time. It was the SKS that I really wanted!

Take them home, and meticulously clean them, and observe them, I was itching to get to the range!

Get to the range, crack the crate open and load up. Pull the trigger and just felt like it didn't live up to the hype. Shot at least 50 rounds, and just disappointed. Shoot the SVT-40 and same thing, just was not into it. The Mosin, fell in love! Maybe it was because I wanted that SKS so bad and just didn't do it for me that made me dislike it. And I didn't have any hype for the mosin, and it became my favorite!

I am not saying its a bad rifle, it is nice and is aesthetically pleasing, just not for me! guess I'm the odd man out here!

So I took your advice and went out and shot a box of non corrosive that I picked up from Cambodian tire.

Shot from 75 yards, the one up high is the first shot and I was having trouble with finding the sight, and then i pulled one to the right.

I think that I need to paint the front sight blade because under the fading light I was having trouble keeping it aligned against a black background.

Anyway I love this shooter!

Nice shoot'n Tex! You should look into Hi-Cal's peep sight. Great for low light or bad contrast situations.

Yeah I think your right, I am stil a young guy but I wear glasses and do not have the best eyesight! Those are some tight sights on the SKS!

Many here on CGN seem to have fallen in love with the Mosin - I don't get it, and I am trying real hard! It is neat that it is so old and looks older but
it is just another old army rifle - shouldn't people be saving that love for the LE or Mausers? But the SKS, what is NOT to love? Fast, fun and cute!

I have two mosins , sks and a svt40. Every month I seem to have a different favorite red rifle. They are all awesome in their own right
