Hi-Point Firearms; Fact vs. Fiction; Good SHTF gun?

I've never handled one of their pistols, so I can't comment.

But the 9mm rifles are great. Best $400 you could ever spend on a gun.

Other than the fact that they're restricted, they will do anything that any other pistol caliber carbine will do.

The Beretta Storm is three times the price. And from what I've seen; They aren't any better of a gun.

Was giving that some thought...are you limited to the proprietary mags or will other pistol mags work in the carbine?

They take hi-point pistol mags.

You can order ten round pistol mags from Irunguns for about 12 bucks each.

I just watched Nutnfancy's review on these guns. 8 out of 10 accurate, reliable and great value. Trigger and action is different but just practise. I just ordered a .40!!!

would it be possible to permanently attach a brake and make it NR, or only a complete barrel change would be necessary for that?

Canadian law requires that the barrel length must be measured from the breech face to the end of the rifling where the barrel is one continuous piece without additions. Adding a muzzle brake, whether removable or permanent, will not change the categorization of these guns from Restricted to Non-Restricted. This used to be common practice with rifles such as Restricted-length M1 Carbines, where muzzle brakes or barrel extensions were permanently affixed to the firearm. In Days of Old, that measure was sufficient to merit a re-classification of the firearm, but no longer.

While we have been able to rebarrel some carbines from Restricted to Non-Restricted lengths (ie: the Beretta CX.4 Storm), the barrel mounting configuration used on the Hi-Point carbines does not allow the barrel to be removed and replaced without destroying the front end of the receiver. Thus, we are not able to rebarrel these guns at this time.

Didn't know that - sure they are legal ??
When I got my 9mm carbine a few years back I was told there were no interchangeable mags and the 10 round pinned to 5 ones that came with the carbine held 3 or 4 rounds at the most, never even 5.
Anyone try the 10 round Promag ones from Irunguns, if they are legit and work, my order's going in. :)

Yes. Handgun mags that hold ten rounds are certainly legal in Canada.

I have used the Hi-point 9mm carbine with Hi-point pistol mags, and it worked just fine. 10 round capacity, and last round hold open.

High-point mags are hard to find in Canada. But Irunguns sells them online.
