HK 45 Yes or No?

What is the difference between the HK45 and the HK .45 USP ?

"The HK45 was developed as a product improvement of the highly regarded USP45, first released in the 1995. The Caliber .45 ACP HK45 includes several user-inspired enhancements including changeable grip panels (backstraps), a Picatinny MIL-STD-1913 accessory rail, better ergonomics, and more ambidextrous controls."

From HK USA... So if you are right handed and don't care about the rail, not much difference.

Thanks:cheers:

I can only imagine the MSRP on that one in Canada.

They're about $1100 if you can find one. Great gun, but since they aren't sold here the parts and support are iffy. The good news is that if you can find one and half a dozen or so magazines, the odds are you won't need any support. The HK distributor is RNicholls, so you'll get jack from them in the way of support.

Why aren't they available here? Wouldn't any Gunshop that carries H&K be able to order one?

Yes, a HK dealer can order one. I think it's a pretty long wait though. If you want one, order one. It seems there is big demand for them and you won't lose money if you don't like it.

I was in Detroit and saw the HK45, USP, P30 and Mark23 all in the display case... doubt they are rare in the US. Welcome to Canada.

Does Canada restrict the number of Guns allowed in the Country? That might explain why some are hard to get.

Here is a decent comparison between the USP 45 and the HK45:

A question for the USP 45 owners: Is is possible to get a non "neutered" 10 round mag for these guns?

The distributor doesn't carry them, the ones that are here (after production moved from Germany to the US) were imported by dealers - they're not in the wholesale chain. Best way to get one would be to find one you want in the US and have Prophet River, or another importer bring it in for you - with lots of magazines. If you're close to Buffalo, NY try Buffalo Gun Centre they have a great reputation.

There are none in Canada? Not in the wholesale chain? Why not?

I'm 2 miles from Detroit, MI, but from what I understand, importing is a costly headache.

Call Wolverine and see about ordering one. I waited awhile for mine, and then waited longer for 4 extra mags, but the wait was worth it. I have tiny hands and I use the large back strap on mine, I find I have a way better grip, not sure why but it works for me. Also installed the light LEM trigger in mine and it's awesome, definitely recommend it to any HK45/USP owners.

It's expensive as all hell, but totally worth it. I'm considering selling my PX4 Storm and grabbing a P30L with LEM trigger since I like it so much.

Expensive to the tune of how much?

Retail is $1100 US, should be around the same... How would Wolverine be able to get it if these are not shipping to Canada at all (from what I'm reading in this thread and a HK dealer has told me)?

My understanding is that it's a cluster f*ck involving RNicholls having an import arrangement with HK (Germany), but NOT with HK (USA). Since the gun is made by HK USA, and RNicholls agreement is with HK (Germany) and not USA they aren't able to order them. Dealers who have relationships with US distributors/wholesalers (like RSA for example) can order them via that route. FWIW I believe Prophet River charges $250 + 5% of the value of the gun - the advantage being you can buy from almost any US source (Guns America, Bud's you name it) so you could pick up a lightly used one and bring it in.

So only the HK45 is made in USA? That's why it is not available to us? P30, USP, USP45 seem to be plentiful, all except the HK45.

They do get batches of the HK45 in to Canada from time to time. Al Flaherty's and Wolverine had a batch in at the same time last time. I did not have the money together, or I would have gotten one. This is what John (from Wolverine Supplies) told me:

We get limited quantities in every few months, they are normally all sold by the time they arrive, we just had 10 in so it will be a while before we see any more. I would suggest you place a definite order with us, for that please e-mail us all your details including phone #. No deposit required, when they arrive you will be contacted and if you still want one you can supply payment details at that time. Thank you.

I think Epps gets the HK45 in some times too.

Buy it if you can find it - you won't regret it! I bought mine with 5 mags of a well known member on here, and couldn't be happier with it! I sold both of my 1911's and haven't regretted it one bit.

The only downside so far is that I can't find an LEM kit or even ambi controls yet. Nightsights (proper - not the glow in the dark paint ones it comes with!) are being installed tonight. :)
