A lot of countries have adopted the little brother and the 417 does appear to be catching on.I don't see Magpul making a mag for the MR308. Too limited a market with uncertain longevity.

It took a while for Magpul to release the LR20's, and the SR-25/DPMS mag pattern is used by at least half (more like 3/4) of the .308 AR's out there.
I don't see how the popularity of the 416 will affect the 417.

But I guess you could be assured that if Magpul did make a magazine for it, no one would buy the stock magazine. Then again, I'm sure the continued use of proprietary mags is just HK being HK (can you say 'PMAG'?).
I would disagree with that statement....
Also interesting, the UK MoD SS contract. LMT came, MoD saw, MWS conquered. Blew away both submissions from Armalite and HK... and the MoD did not even know who Lewis Machine & Tool was before the tender.
What made LMT stand out over Armalite and HK? Just out of curiosity.

It is from your own experience or just rumor!
LMT beat out an earlier version of the 417, they did not send a rifle specifically to that test requirement, apparently they rushed out the door some 417's that were in stock and older versions that the newer versions were superior too in performance. Not saying LMT battle rifle is any lesser of a quality firearm..
A lot of rumor mixed with opinion on this topic, from my source in Germany it was very interesting, but I can't remember all the specifics from what i was told, this was going back a while.
I would think that any 417 would be built to the requirement. If it is indeed true that they rushed some old 417s, they are idiots and somebody should be fired. I personally don't buy that. It's not like the DoD showed up and said, "you have 5 minutes to get us a sample rifle". I'd expect excuses like that from Robinson Arms, not HK. I think that HK is making up excuses to save face.
