HK SL8/243/G36 FAQ, Mods, And Info

Honestly, I’ve never took the time to get any decent groups. Usually it has a red dot, or the dual optic carry handle, once it’s sighted in, i blast gongs. It has to be my favourite platform, very modular, more now then ever before that all the new IDZ and Tommybuilt parts, ease of use, maintenance, and complete disassembly and assembly. Reliable magazines and pretty light weight (unless you add a bunch of optional gear).

No idea. But it only fits the AG36, that handguard wont work with the M320, AG-NL, AG-C, or AG416
There are several different AG Receivers.

Stand alone stock adapter came in recently.

....where did you source the carry handle/optic combo?

Perhaps the following deserves a new thread altogether, but hoping to contribute to Polska's AWESOME post on all things G36 here... while self-appeasing my frustration with certain retailers deleting folks' posts on pertinent G36 data/call outs. So here goes...

HOW TO SPOT A REAL DEAL HK G36:

1. There are HK date codes and German eagle proof marks on the barrel.
2. There is a HK German eagle proof mark on the bolt.
3. The serial number on the receiver matches the serial number on the FCG.
4. It came with a "red book" operators manual from HK**

Anything else is a frankenrifle assembled from albeit authorized free parts kits, but are otherwise not a "genuine" G36, in much the same was as you see non-matching Enfields and K98s, for example. They are NOT collector grade despite the HK parts, IMHO.

Yes, there is a specific retailer on CGN that seems to delete any post that tries to educate potential customers about their products. My guess would be the truth would lower sales and raise more questions.

1. There are HK date codes and German eagle proof marks on the barrel.
I don’t believe there is a date code on the barrel. That 2 letter code isn’t a date code I believe. The eagle is there. I’ll check tomorrow and confirm.

2. There is a HK German eagle proof mark on the bolt.
Depending on the year of manufacture, the bolt can also have a date code and serial number. Serials numbers were added by HK to meet with Euro Laws. Original G36 and SL8 don’t have serials on the bolt, current ones do.

3. The serial number on the receiver matches the serial number on the FCG.
Original lowers don’t have serial numbers or date codes, no Eagle either. Later due to Euro Laws, serials and date codes were added to lowers.

4. It came with a "red book" operators manual from HK
I’ve never seen the red book included with any new G36. Not even a basic manual. All literature is supplied to the government/police agency separately. Usually owners/collectors add a copy of the “Red Book”.
G36 rifles come in brown cardboard boxes with no printed labels or markings. There will be a couple white stickers affix to the box which specify model number, serial number, and a bunch of production information with bar codes.
G36 rifles are not supplied in hard cases, there is no official hard case for the G36.

When I get some time, I’ll take photos of each example and post them.

^ Yep what Polska said. :)

I do find it interesting that German law considers the barrel and bolt as defining parts of a firearm, versus the receiver. At least that is my understanding anyway.

hi folks happy new owner of an-4 sl8 and already a question ... i have the spuhr magwell adaptor from wolverine so that i can run ar magazines. i have cpd lar magazines to run in it. i have the magwell installed, along with the new bolt release that comes with it. the mags fit in the magwell fine, and drop free fine when the magwell is not installed, however when the magwell is installed the mags won't go up high enough to engage the mag release.

when i take it close look, it appears that the the interference is happening between the receiver and the front of the magazines - the plastic tabs that are indicated for removal way up in post #4 of this thread. there's nothing in the spuhr instructions about this and i am hesitant to start milling my receiver only to not solve the problem or make the gun worse in some manner. is it possible that some mags are narrower at the front and will run ok? i am specifically looking for 10 round capacity (competition carbine) so limited to the lar options out there.

thanks for any help.

I hate to say it but go ahead an mill off those two tabs in the receiver like the post said. If you don't you are stuck with the 5rd HK mags and the stock mag well.

Cheers
Moe

right. so took a dremel and flat file to the two vertical tabs and mags fit and drop most excellently now. fyi, the entire tab doesn't need to be removed. you can see in the referenced pic that there is a bevel on the ends of the vertical tabs; just extend this bevel from the edge of the receiver to the horizontal portion of the tab and ar mags will work (CPD LAR mags, anyways) while leaving enough to still work w hk mags if you ever want to revert (good luck getting the original mag catch back in, though).

another question ... the 'improved' bolt hold open that comes with the spuhr magwell works well except that when a loaded mag is inserted with the bolt held open the tip of the hold open catches the end of the top round and knocks it askew. it's like the tip of the hold open should be 5 mm shorter or something. anyone else experience this? thanks.
