HK SL8/243/G36 FAQ, Mods, And Info

I had the aluminum Handguard. It was a bit heavier than the Polymer HG, but was rock-solid in terms of mounting. Far sturdier than the Polymer HG and well worth the upgrade if you can find one.

Anyone got any tips on how to remove the recoil backplate from the SL8 to swap on the Hera Arms conversion kit? Im having a helluv a time trying to figure this part out since there’s no screws, pins, nothing visible to loosen off, its very frustrating.

There is a spring pin that holds it in place.

Hey there, just something for everyone to keep in mind / keep an eye out.

I was shooting my SL8-4 at the the range yesterday and at one point when I turned it over, I found this eye bolt on the bench. It was pretty greased up and while I didn't think it came from my SL8, I quickly found out it did as on subsequent shots, the handguard was sliding back and forth. Clearly this thing secured the handguard. It looks like it only goes in one way, left to right but as I put it in the hole (and the end of the top rail between the rail and handguard) the threads just popped out on the other side - clearly there was a nut or something that was supposed to hold it in place. I looked around the bench and on the floor - nada. On the next target change and the line was closed, I went in front of my bench and dug around for it, and after a while I found it - it's a little circular threaded nut thing - I hand tightened it onto the eye bolt and stopped shooting it since I figured hand tight is not gonna be tight enough. When I got home, I used some pliers and torque the dickens out of that eye bolt. Should have applied some loctite too but the eye bolt rotated many more times past what I could do by hand, with the help of pliers.

I thought I'd mention this only because that threaded circular piece must have gone flying at some point and thankfully I was at a bench where it could have only gone in so many directions.

I have attached a photo below of my rifle and circled the eyebolt piece. You may wish to ensure that the other side's circular nut piece is nice and tight.

Has anyone tried this or have an actual description on how this is done. Seems to be a better solution than using a dremel on the guns mag well.

I would be interested too...wasn't aware that PMAG compatibility was even a possibility. I always understood either the magwell or the mag can be altered, with the latter relating to G36 mag modifications. If PMAGs can be made to work (or even LAR15s), that would be HUGE. The $100 price tag of the HK 5 rounders is a bit hard on the wallet

I think he was referring to G36 Pmags, not the AR type.

Ive read that people have gotten the barrels turned down to cut weight. Does anyone have some numbers on how much weight savings they got out of this procedure?

Edit: Is there weight savings using a G36 barrel as well? How much would that be?
