HK SL8/243/G36 FAQ, Mods, And Info

Anyone have any input on how large of an objective lens size that will clear the top rail and allow for good cheek weld? I was thinking of using a 40 or 44mm scope on low to medium rings.

Nobody can answer that question since "low rings" depend very much on the manufacturer of said rings. There is no standard as to what low is.

The ocular/eyepiece bell will likely be over the rail as well so even a small objective will be limited.

I have never had a single stack magazine in my hands BUT what I see from the pictures, it only has one cut out, so WTF how can it fit in a SL8 4 or 5 as one guy claimed????????

^single stack are for American (mutilated to get around the clinton assult rifle ban back in the day) guns

you must be talking about IrunGuns, it's like their brains would melt before they could figure out why we want G36 pmags for our SL8-4 or 5 (tabs removed)

All they have ever seen are sl8-1 or 6 that are single stack mags due to the eclipsed assault rifle ban in the USA

When you see in the ad Euro version it means double stack

Yeah IRG keep telling people that the single stack mags fit and there was another guy who also claimed the same, making people buy single stack magazines for their -4 and -5.

My head almost exploded but I kept my mouth shut, people hear what they want to hear.

I almost got screwed on this one! Ordered 2 mags from them, they assured me that it will work in my sl-5. Good thing they didn’t have time to process the order and I was able to cancel…. Got a refund.

I did look at that option too, but I really like the look of the short top rail.
Does anyone make a long rail to short conversion?

This what I ordered - eliminates the top rail all together. Some people with this setup claim it gives them better access to the charging handle. For the price I thought I would give it a try.

Here is a Tommy Built top rail replacement that I considered - price is a little steep and the color doesn't line up but looks pretty solid.

I had an SL8-4 and sold it. I had sellers remorse so I bought an SL8-5 and I can confirm 100 percent the single stack SL8-6 mags fits it. I took a chance on the singles as I could not find any doubles.

I have 3 ProMags that were meant for the SL8-6 that I purchased from Reliable Guns and they work fine. No feeding issues and they hold the bolt open on the last round. If I recall correctly they were 59.00. These mags securely lock into place but they have some side to side wiggle due to them being a single stack. Have a look at the photos below.

You are correct that the single stack only has one "notch cut out" but entire top end of the mag is a lot narrower due to it being a single stack.. The lack of a cut out allows the mag to bypass one of the small rails or as some refer to as notches in the receiver (the ones that people Dremel out to use G36 mags) so it is still supported by the inside part of the 2 vertical rails so it is secure and functions.

Here are pictures that hopefully show what I was trying to say. Lol

Hope this assists.

Did you notice much of a weight difference between the 4 and 5?

Nothing noticeable. I prefer the -5 as I like the option to use iron sights.

Another FYI - if you notice that your top rail on either 4 or 5 is loose, the 3 screws should be torqued to 18in-lbs. I contacted HK as mine needed to be tightened.
