HK SL8/243/G36 FAQ, Mods, And Info

Could you please post the model of the pro mag mag that you have? I was able to find one double stack mag but would like to get couple more. Much thanks!
Never mind, I found it on pro mag website. And of course to my luck nobody has them in stock!

That's the mount. Some dealers want around $100 but I found those fellows. The mount is solid on the Hera Arms rail as long as you push it forward in the rail slot before tightening the bolt. 223 does not have much recoil.

Thank you. Just ordered both. Bought a SL8-5 from Tenda on sale but don’t like the long rail and wanted to mount a scope. Appreciate the cost effective solution!
 
i looked hard at the primary arms unit but not enough cantilever to really work properly. there is a similar unit from vortex (really, all you are looking for is something with a single recoil lug) with more cantilever but even then not enough.

Looks like it should be enough. It was $50 shipped. I’ll take the chance. Will look like a SVT40 sniper rifle but should still work with a smaller scope. I’m going with 3-15 or 3-9x .
 
I'd love to ditch the long rail, but the Hera split rail also looks hideous. Any other realistic options?
 
the hera rail is poorly engineered. the hk mounting points are designed to work together. both the front and back hera rails have some play as a result. you can get lower-profile versions of the full rail if you want; i think rdsc was selling the tommybuilt unit (but big $).
 
Knights Armament makes these but I've never seen the pair for sale over the years.. always one or the other, also big money as with all things HK related:

UTG used to offer a metal slightly lower sl8-4 rail. $150. But haven’t made them for years. I know it’s Chinese., I use their overbore bipods and they are excellent, Good for 50 BMG tank like. So not all they make is cheap garbage. Their sl8 rails received good reviews. Again, couldn’t find any for sale.
 
my concern with the low profile rails is that getting lower means that they have to get super thin - just the rail really - over the action. one hard smack and it's outta shape.
