HK SL8 Conversion?

Comparison of G36 length of pull vs. length of pull of an SL8 "stock-block" conversion:

The trigger lock numbers are exactly 2 cm across, so the SL8 conversion is roughly 2 cm longer than the G36. Note that the full-size stock is pictured. The C stock is about 2 cm shorter than the full size stock.

Thats the pic I was looking for. I could not find it anywhere.

I find the normal SL8 stock too short (it needs spacers). The factory SL8 LOP was a bit over 13" if I remember correctly.

I used the old rule of thumb where your LOP should be "about an inch less than the distance from the inside crook of the elbow on your shooting arm to the first joint of your trigger finger." This is about 14.2" for me.

What is the LOP with the conversion stock blocks?

Actual HK G36C LOP 12.75in / 32.385cm
Actual HK G36E LOP 13.75in / 34.925cm

SL8 with stock block and G36 C stock 13.75in / 34.925cm
SL8 With stock block and G36 E stock 14.75in / 37.465

Standard SL8 LOP can be adjusted from 13 to 15 in / 33.03 to 38.1cm

My SL8SG1 that is in the pic is 14.25in / 36.195 cm

Are there any replica stocks that I can bolt up to an SL8 for the "look"?

I had a lot of fun today shooting non-restricted outdoors, I think so much fun it's worth buying a non-res tactical type gun even if it ends up being more expensive

Actual HK G36C LOP 12.75
Actual HK G36E LOP 13.75

SL8 with stock block and G36 C stock 13.75
SL8 With stock block and G36 E stock 14.75

That's in Imperial units, right?

Anyway, so using the C stock brings the length back down to the full-size G36 length. What is the default SL8 LOP (by default, the SL8 comes with one spacer)?

I fixed it now. :) I need to post this in the info forum

SL8 standartd LOP with a single spacer is 13.5" / 34.29 cm. Absolute shortest LOP is 13" / 33.02 cm

Actual HK G36C LOP 12.75
Actual HK G36E LOP 13.75

SL8 with stock block and G36 C stock 13.75
SL8 With stock block and G36 E stock 14.75

Nice info, thanks!

So the G36E stock on the SL8 would be a bit much, but the G36C sounds fine. Now to find a conversion kit on this continent....

There are some listed here. http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php?t=270868
They are expensive and can be hard to find. HDPS and HK parts net also has them, but its next to impossible to get them from the US.

Do these guys still ship to Canada?

Well, my G36C stock with cheek rest came today, only it's a G36K stock with no cheek rest, and yep, the LOP is way too long.

Hopefully I'll get this sorted.

EDIT: My mistake, it is the G36C stock. You weren't joking about that length of pull!

It would be best to contact them directly. Things seem to change without notice.

I sent these guys an email the other day about getting a flash hider and that rather nice looking folding stock.

Still waiting on a response, but my email was in English, so I don't know how long it might take them to find someone to read it.

Please let us know how that turns out. I like the look of that stock as well.

For the record, I took my freshly converted SL8 to the range on Saturday. The only work I did was to replace the auto hammer in the G36 lower with the hammer from the SL8 lower, and remove the hammer catch, since the SL8 doesn't have the lip on the bolt carrier to reset it.

Shot about 50 rounds, and everything worked beautifully. Loaded in a fresh magazine, and nothing....cocking the rifle wouldn't reset the hammer.

Took it home and gave it a visual inspection, everything seemed in order, it just wouldn't catch the hammer. I put the old SL8 lower (with the G36 auto hammer) back on, and it cocked perfectly every time. I ended up switching out the SL8 lower guts into the G36 lower, with the exception of the long bit on the back of the safety, which would require drilling an extra hole, and everything seems to be working perfectly.

Also, I heard back from IEA:

IEA said:
the muzzle brake is 109,-EUR
the folding stock is 530,-EUR

+ ship/ins. 75,-EUR

That was their response to my question of whether they'd ship to Canada, so I can only assume that they're giving it the go-ahead. I'm going to try to order the muzzle brake from them this week and see how it goes.

Hmm maybe I'll order up the stock and see how it goes. Landed cost of almost $800 is pretty painful... But it sure looks cool. I may just give up and try and find a Tbostic stock here in Canada, or wait for the NEA pistol grip (if they are serious about making one).

Your call, but ultimately, it's not that expensive. My G36 FBI lower, aluminium stock block conversion, and G36C stock cost CDN$935, and that's before trying to get them over the border into Canada.

I'm not sure of the availability of TBostic's stocks, but I believe they come in cheaper, and from seeing his work, they look pretty awesome.

I'm sure I'll end up with a variety of stocks and setups for this thing by the time I'm done....beginning to wonder if I saved any money over just getting a G36 :)

On a somewhat related note, IEA have invoiced me, and are awaiting funds before they ship.

Unfortunately, they only accept payment by international wire transfer, and my bank (RBC) seems to be having a hard time telling their arse from a hole in the ground in this regard. To paraphrase them, "We're not sure we've got it right, we can send it, but it will cost you $65 plus an additional $25 because we can't confirm the account number, and we can't tell you if or when it will get there".

Trying to negotiate alternative payment methods with IEA now...

Just an update - I finally got my bank to get their #### together and send the wire transfer. The muzzle brake shipped last week.

Pics when it gets here.
