HK SL8 or ACR?

The NEA magwell is a drop-in replacement. Pull the retaining pin on the original magwell, remove magwell, use retaining pin to retain new magwell. Done.

At least, if the parts fit right that's how it goes. Mine needed some file work to get it to go on.

Most people from what I understand don't have problems.
The NEA magwell is definitely not a "no gunsmithing" deal. Yes, the magwell itself simply replaces the original magwell. But to get the AR mags to work, you have to mill out some small tabs on the inside of the receiver to allow the mags to seat.

The conversion involves gunsmithing, or as some folks refer to it, a "hack", so I hope no one orders the magwell, thinking they can simply swap out the part and they're good to go.

I'm going to do it, because the HK mags are obscenely priced (at least $75, IIRC) , and I don't want a 30 round mag sticking out the bottom. If someone sold a 5/10 or 5/20 round may at a reasonable price, the conversion wouldn't be important to me.

I believe that was version 1 of the magwell... I didn't have to screw with any tabs or anything. Just works.

+1, I got my mag well from NEA a month or two ago and all I had to do was take the old one out along with the latch and put the NEA one in and my LAR15 mags and PMAG's work fine

Weird, the receiver on my SL8 has internal projections that keep an AR style mag from fully seating. The NEA instructions describe how to remove those projections.

So are there different SL8s being sold in Canada?

Both my gun and magwell were bought in the last 2 months.

Strange, maybe you somehow got an old mag well? My SL8-5 was bought in june and the mag well was bought in august I believe.

My magwell fits perfectly.

The problem is the receiver on the rifle. It has tabs projecting from the receiver wall that prevent an AR style mag from fully entering.

The instructions that came with the magwell (NEA) detail the need to remove these before the mags would fit.

Did you buy your rifle new, or is it possible that the receiver mod was done previously?

Sounds like you have an SL8-1 or SL8-6.

The -4 and -5 variants have no such issues.

Ummm, mine is an SL8-4 (according to the serial number).

As I mentioned above, the instructions that came with the magwell explain the needed receiver mods.

Gotcha, the model number is engraved on the side so it's pretty obvious.

That being said, I didn't have to modify my -4 at all....I just decided to stick with the HK mags.

+2, I love mine, just wish the stock was a bit shorter. Might have to get the adjustable version, Id rather not ruin the g36 look of mine though. Also very heavy gun, but good for coyotes off a bipod
