HK USC to UMP conversion

This is a copy of another post in Gunsmithing, but this may be a better place for it considering the audience.

So I was getting a little stir crazy waiting for my UMP conversion kit to arrive so I thought in the mean time... have some fun.

Heres how it came from Wolverine

and after a few minutes with a fore grip and some rails pre ordered from Dlask

But I hate the stock like I hated the SL8 thumbhole before it so I tore it apart knowing it had to go. So I flipped a jigsaw upside down and held it between my knees on the floor like a makeshift tablesaw to cut make the initial cut

and then the smaller cuts on the bottom chord that allowed it to bend straight

and cutting in a divot for the chord to be placed into (in retrospect I should have keyed this somehow...)

I glued the bottom chord with Devcon II Plastic Welder.

Then a little glazing putty and sanding

and some Textured Plastic black paint and presto (its not 100% dry/cured yet, 15 min after paint, so still a bit shiny but you get the idea) and Operation: Thumbhole Stock Be Gone is complete... I have to come up with a better name:p

Now I just sit back and wait for the upper to come back from the gunsmith to see how it goes together... and for the acutal UMP conversion kit to come in of course.

Excelllent....

Thanks for sharing, might be a good interim measure before the whole UMP conversion takes place.

Another question, are you guys getting smaller barrels in or just having the factory barrel cut down?

Looks very good!

With the experiance I had with my mod, if you find the pistol grip is flexing too much, you can re-enforce the inside with some fibreglass cloth, and take 5 or 6 small squares of fibreglass cloth and round out the area where the web of your hand sits. It makes the pistol grip SO much more comfortable!

Look at what we got here

After over a year and half of source parts a ton of money and acquiring a black HK USC 45 carbine I have finally completed my UMP conversion. The conversion was done by Ian at Herron Arms. He does excellent work. The conversion has all 5 cooling slots cut into the reciever and sports the UMP FBI lower with HDPS stock block, barrel is 7.87 inch Green Mountain UMP barrel and the rest of the parts are all genuine HK. Here are the pics they were a rush job so not too detailed. I might take some better photos tomorrow or friday when I have more time.

It was a long wait to get these on shore but it looks just like it should. Have you made any choices as to running an optic yet?

FYI: If you're looking at a case I'm thinking about ordering the one for mine from Assault Systems in Size 5 http://www.elitesurvival.com/index.php?p=product&id=80&parent=0 . I had a hard time finding a case that would fit with the mag attached but this one was the pick of the litter

Haha I think a lot of people under estimate how BIG the USC really is. Its not huge, but its not a small or tiny gun at all.

Agreed. Its almost twice the size of the wifes TP9 for example. The size of the trigger guard was a bit of suprise for us. I know it was designed to be used by hands with gloves(which is a great feature incidentally) but the wife can almost fit her fist thru it:p.
