HK USC to UMP conversion

ezkmo, looks great. what kind of accuracy you getting, at say 25 yds with the longer barrel. if you re-register the gun as non restricted with the longer barrel, will you have to turn in the short barrel the same way as one would have to when converting a prohib pistol to restricted?

Only prohib barrels need to be turned in.
As for the accuracy, It is very accurate with the longer barrel. (I had it made by Ian at Herron Arms) with a match grade barrel. Quality is excellent.
I will be taking it gopher hunting in the spring.

Cheers

Edited by request, glad I could help...

Just an fyi. I was reading about another subject and came across this in the CGN Rules and Regulations (the bold is mine)

CGN General Rules and Guidelines...

The following topics will not be tolerated. Violation will result in immediate and permanent suspension. Some quasi legal/ grey/downright illegal examples that are specifically not tolerated are:

Shipping and driving items to Canada from the US that require US export permit.

Discharging firearms in places where firearms are not allowed to be discharged.

Manufacture or use of flammable and explosive substances or “tracer” projectiles.

Unblocking 5 rd magazines to regular capacity.

Swapping non-restricted barrel for restricted barrel at gun range.

Home made firearms with illegal or misleading markings. For example, marking a chunk of metal with "Valmet 78".

Solicitation of unregistered firearms or magazine kits.

These rules are here to ensure that CGN will be the premium firearms site for law abiding Canadian gun owners.

Dlask is advertising 8" threaded barrels on their site.

It's not a grey zone. Changing barrels at the range is simply illegal.

Some people will tell you that is ok,
because somewhere the law sez you have 30 days to notify the CFC
of a change in classification. And that is true, BUT, in that particular case
you are at the range with a restricted gun that is NOT covered by your ATT.
And that is a no-no.

there was a slight delay in getting this, but I finally picked it up from Epps today. I still need to refinish the stock and mount optics.

That an 18.5" barrel?

Man it looks friggin long....

I have an MP5SD handguard I did a model of that I ordered through shapeways, it sticks out about 2" past the front of the factory handguard, it'll be interesting to see how it looks with the MFI fake can I have on my 8" barrel.

Might make the 18.5" barrel look decent with the SD handguard and a shroud over that.

You need a small mallet, a punch small enough to pound out the pin in the trunion, 20 minutes and a half dozen beer.

The pin only takes about a minute... its downing the beer that takes time.

Feel free to down the beer after the trunnion pin if you choose. In retrospect its probably better that way;)

I have changed tons of AR barrels, but I noticed that special tools are required for the SL8 and not reading a single post about people doing this job themselves had me wondering about having to send the gun out (a gun which I don't have yet!).

So then it's beer, hit pin with punch, beer, hit pin with punch......beer, hit thumb with hammer.....beer, where is the punch.....done for the day.... got it.

... I will add one note; ensure its a long punch as, like many things in life, a short one just doesn't cut it regardless of how well you use it ;)

Second is make sure the punch is large enough to catch the roll pin but small enough to not beat up your trunion. The pin should move with ease. Some have suggested using a type of punch that has a centre pin (sorry, don't know what its called and I didn't use one).
