Hey guys,

I have an HK USP in .40 that I purchased. I've heard that I can use it in IPSC from people and I've also heard that I cant use it in production.

Anyone know what the answer is for sure?

yeah you can use it. Yeah you can use it in Production. I use mine in Production.

IVe shot alot of level 2s with mine. Maurice on this board shoots his at several out east as well. I have also seen somebody at another match shoot USP Custom Sport as well.

The only thing you won't likely see an HK USP do is jam.
you don't have to worry about it getting dirty (within' reason) as it is a workhorse, not unlike a Glock in that respect. You can use a USP .40 in production or Standard division; however, you have to fire your first shot in DA in production division. (although I would throw in a Match trigger kit or at least the springs from the kit)
You can buy a simple part ($12) and change it from a Variant 1 (decock down on safety up lever) to a variant 3 (decock only). this will prevent accidently placing it on safe during a match.

For standard, a variant 9 (correct me if I am wrong), which makes the lever a safety only, so you can start cocked and locked (in SA)for standard.
It is not expensive unless you make it that way. For Production you can download your .40 to minor Power factor levels, or just buy ammo from Wolf or Combat masters. You will be out-gun'd in Standard, unless you get a USP expert in .40, which you can spend some money and put the jet funnel and do-dads into......
Very reliable, and accurate.;)

you like the v3? honestly i like keeping it v1, that way its a good trainer for a 1911 as well. Same grip angles ect. To bad its only the Expert and Elite that have Ambi safeties.

BTW, are you going with the fibres on leaving it alone? Sounds like they are legal now?

I have ordered a complete fibre optic adjustable set. After the Nationals I will install it. Not enough time to get used to it.
The part is only around $12 to change it to a V3. You can change it back in about 1 minute. You don't need a safety on a DA /TDA gun. If you want it truly like a 1911, than have it safety only. It is incredibly easy to change it around to different variants.

yeah, agreed. still I like having a safety on my USP along with decocker. BTW, on the fibre optics, its now totally legal right? Any idea on how sturdy they would be drawing from a leather holster? how sturdy is the tip site? So you went adj. rear green 2 dot and fixed front red dot right? Can you let me know how you like them when you get back? I think this might be a good change in sites, im just worried bout longevity on the tube. Ive got a buddy of mine who breaks them on his STi alot.

Have you noticed on the German Army version of the USP the safety is actually in reverse?

I noticed the German gun, it is called a P8? I have two white mags from that gun. one is crap, the other is good.
PSI is sending the sites along with replacement rods (not plastic inserts)..I think some use actually fibre optic rods, and others use plastic rods....?

yes it is legal.

any choice in colour? or is it green setup with red? how many extra rods did you get?

Fibre Optic Rod runs approx. $5 for 12 inches, where I ordered my sight from. I'm gonna get a spare rod...I can see myself breaking alot at first.

hey was that you in Haliburton? shot with Omen?

No, that was not me. I last did the level 2 at the EOHC and saw a guy in the squad behind me was also using a USP, could not tell if it was a Custom Sport or a Tactical as it was in the holster.

Hey Maurice, where can I order that part to change it to variant 3. I accidentally put the safety on last match and it took me some time to figure out why it would not fire.

that is exactly what happened to me:redface:
Twice in one match. The part can be ordered thru anyone who deals with FN sports. You are looking for a variant # 3 Detent plate. You do NOT need the Variant 3 Lever; it is identical to the V1 lever, except there is no "S" for safety, as it only decocks. You can also get it from Cals Sporting Armory, they have them in stock, as well as the V9 detent plate, which allows you to have the firearm cocked and locked= safety only, no decock.
it is easy to change.
*Clear firearm
*Take off slide.
*Push sear axle pin just enough to allow the detent plate to come up
*Put v3 detent plate in, return sear axle so as to retain the plate
*Put slide back on and function test.

Thanks for all the help guys...So i want to shoot production I suppose since I've never done IPSC before, is this a good gun to start off with? I've shot several pistols including 1911's, glocks, xd40's, sig's and this feels by far the best when I shoot it, really rock on stable and good in my hands.

So i want to shoot low power .40 for minor? And change it to a v3?

well if you shoot 1911s alot, leave it V1.. youll be use to safety. I leave mine like that. The USP has good ergonomics and pointability. Takes abit to break in the DA trigger, but a few thousand rounds and itll smooth out. It might be possible for you to convert it to a 9mm. I believe its a drop in kit. Would be cheaper like that, and all factory parts.
