HK USP for ipsc?

I thought the new top end was like $600 bucks or so? Still cheaper possibility. However buying a second gun is a nice option. I just am not a fan of factory .40 ammo. Now reloaded .40 seems to be pretty slow, from alot of the stuff ive shot that people are using in standard major. Plus the money you spend on upper change over you will save back soon enough in ammo prices. unless you are into reloading.

Cant I shoot major with the .40 in production?
Wouldn't that put me at an advantage?

All production is scored minor. There is no advantage to shooting 40.

Gunnar from Armco evaluated the whole "downleaded 40 vs. 9mm" and the downed 40 still exhibits more recoil.

You can shoot major in production, but all production is scored minor, no matter what you use (357, 40, .45) (as if you were shooting a 9mm)
For lack of better wording , "overkill" if you are making major in a minor scored division. There are those that download .40 in production.

ahhh okay thanks..I've shot a glock 17 and I find that my .40 USP handles recoil the same... i know that sounds crazy, keep in mind im using lower power .40.

Anyways just to clarify, for sure I can still shoot production if I install the match trigger set? does taht require an Armorer to install?

yes, the sporting trigger is an option for any usp.

wether it requires an armorer is dependent on your level of confidence, and the tools you have or need. You should have a small screw driver, a small pair of tweezers, and a punch set (brass or not). The only part you may have difficulty with is the trigger return spring. You may have to complete some, "minor detailing" if you find the trigger does not reset properly. ie: problems with fitment and plastic. The trigger works in well with frequent dryfire and use. The internal parts become smoother over time.
Do you know how to take it apart. The HKpro website has armorers manuals to assist.

Thanks again for all the help...isn't it bad to dryfire a pistol though?

well, that depends on how much....but yeah, any pistol really shouldn't be dryfired on an empty chamber, so I use snap caps. I am talking 1000's of dryfire. not 50-100 times, but thousands of times.

no dryfire it thousand of times every day... If you want get some a-zoom snap caps. Dont worry bout dry firing it. YOu wont break it. Its not a rimfire.

I've got a USP 9mm in stainless. It's pretty new still (only about 500 rounds through it), and I was trying a few types of ammo to see what it liked best, one of which was 115 grain Win target loads, and I was getting FTE on EVERY SHOT. I'm sure it was just because it's so new and the spring hasn't been worn in. Other than that - accurate, built to last, and light. I love it.

ps. I was also getting split casings from Fiocchi. Not sure if anybody else has had that problem.

weird,

I have used the Winchester 115 gr I got from Maine and it worked flawlessly.
124gr Winchester and Combat masters; "0" problems.
147gr Winchester winclean "0" problems.
Winchester 147gr white box, 3 "jams", but only from 1 magazine; a white P8 magazine that had some issues.

Sorry to revive this thread, didn't want to make a new one and theres some good info in here for others.

Anyone know the cheapest place to get the trigger kit?
Also who can install this in the GTA/Mississauga area?
Finally joined a club! (Burlington) looking forward to starting out at PCC then IPSC.

Maybe RobertJohnson.com
or try a dealer who may go thru R.Nichols. I think Numrich gun parts has some trigger kits.

You can order it from Al Simmons in Burlington. If it's in stock at R. Nichols then Simmons will have it within 2-3 days.

Oh, and start with

Irrational People Squabbling Constantly
then go to
Pillows, Pads, & Cushions
Later, try
I Don't Practice Anymore.

imma recuscitate this thread for my benefit. so I love the usp, planning on getting a 9mm this summer, but im curious about the jet funnel. does anybody have it? does it work well and improve your reloading speed? are the jet funnel mags durable for IPSC use should i choose try it out?
