HK416/MR223 Info Thread

So this is just a FYI if your don't "hang out" at HKPRO, this is really the "crown jewel" of changing a barrel, this means that you can use an AR barrel. You will have to "spec" the GB etc, just letting you know it "out there" . ALL ITAR RULES APPLY GOVERN YOURSELF ACCORDINGLY

You can ask you local gun shop to make the order with North Sylva to purchase new barrels from HK Germany. HK does need your serial numbers.

HK will look up your serial number, and give you the same barrel in the same configuration when the gun was sent out of the factory - everything minus the gas system and push rod.

HK must be doing this in JIT fashion, because i have purchased a replacement barrel for my 2007 vintage first gen MR. The barrel they sent me is exactly the same as the original, down to the old style shoulder but with a 2017 proof mark.

There is no reason to make your own barrel. Totally not worth the time, effort and money.

Just curious, how long did it take to get your barrel?, that's fine, but what if your want to go to a 10" barrel, I guess you would have to buy another complete upper?

HK's turn around is supposed to be 8 to 10 weeks once they get the order, before adding the ordering and shipping time between the dealer and NS, and the shipping time from Germany.

About the 10" barrel, why would you assemble your own volkswagen engine to put inside a Porsche? May as well buy a volkswagen that tries to look like a Porsche, like those Titan knock off 416. At least you are driving a real volkswagen!

That sounds good, but in reality it could be a year or more in my experience dealing with NS

Odd analogy, so I'm guessing it humor, I built a 416 10.4" upper to spec using German parts so it can be done. An HK barrel swap is pretty easy, if?? you have the parts, aka the "barrel" LOL
Cheers

Well the options are there now for HK MR series. Parts are available and getting easier to get. So in conclusion the naysayers can take a back seat. HK416/223 is here to stay for a long time.

Was the barrel internally the same as well? As in chrome-lined or not?

I only have the upper (the 556a1 version), what serial would I need to give them? I also wonder if it's possible to get their 20" barrels...

Issue right now HK is heavily back ordered with military orders & it’s doubtful you would see barrels in 8-10 weeks currently

HK doesn't really "sell" barrels, but they do sell uppers.

They will only sell barrels as repair parts only. That is my understanding but I could be wrong. Therefore, they will only sell you a barrel that is the same as your rifle.

Now, don't quote me on that. My guess is that if you have a HK USA MR556, HK germany will not do anything for you. They will tell you to contact HK USA for repair parts. In this case, you may as well try to get it from HK USA and use Irunguns to import it.

It would be nice if someone would make thread adapters that fit well on the MR223/308 rifles and converted them to 1/2x28 and 5/8x24 And didn’t cost a fortune.

Ah. You got B&T man. The FH by HK are fine. In fact they work extremely well. And actually awesome quality for the price.

I just realize the new MR223 11" is just under 3000 CDN at retail, which was 3600ish a year or two ago. Looks like the CDN is doing better but also the factory price is lower as well. They are also coming with flip up BUIS standard like what it was shown at IWA. I remember years ago HK wanted you to pay extra for these things. So the price is actually coming down and they are giving people more stuff.

It also appears the old "HK 416" sight height had been completely phrased out. HK is now shipping BUIS in standard AR15 height. So all the old Larue HK specific Aimpoint mounts are now outdated and worthless!

I actually prefer the older setup but flip ups would be better like the Troy 416 specific model! I like the E1 stock too it grows on me. Even the 416 grip most civi MR223 came with is actually nice once you get use to it. This takes a while.

When you are use to using standard AR sights and A2 grip etc.

Not exactly, the height over bore remains the same on all HK416/MR223 due to the gas piston system so while using AR cowitness mounts works perfectly fine, lower 1/3 cowitness height becomes slightly awkward although still usable. The benefit of HK specific mounts are that they provide more ease for a great cheek weld.

I just emailed Firearms Outlet Canada and they said they are out of stock at the supplier level.

Where else could I order a MR223A3 or MR556A3 from?

Importer should have more in February I believe. Trying to get an MR556 from the US would probably take as long anyway and you’d end up with the American HK Instead of German HK. Just order one and wait till the next shipment. IMO

Mine took about 1 year start to finish from pre-order. HK was backed up with a few massive contracts. According to the stickers on the case my rifle was assembled just a few months ago.

Hopefully their not as backed up now so the next shipment isn't as much of a delay.
